Autumn is Here!
Another Season of Learning is Upon Us
...and just like that, it's October and the holidays are coming!
The learning continues. This past month students have learned about library organization and expectations, book care, and our third, fourth, and fifth grade students learned about self-checkout and had the opportunity to practice it this past week. This month we will focus on Hispanic Heritage Month, digital citizenship week, and of course spooky read alouds for Halloween. Oh and don't forget, it's book fair month!
I am looking forward to another month of learning, reading great books, and collaborating with teachers to bring more print and digital resources into our classrooms!
READ
Celebrate Star Readers with Their Very Own Read Poster
Teachers, take some time to identify two star readers (one boy, one girl) in your classroom by the end of the month. You may choose students who show great reading ability, students who have shown great progress in their reading skills, and/or students who exemplify great reading traits including the simple joy of loving to read! The students that you select will have the opportunity to have their picture taken and have an 8x10 READ poster created that can be hung up in our school. More information to come!
Let's Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with BookBreak
Join Matt Tavares and Yuyi Morales
BookBreak is back and even better with more amazing author chats happening this school year! Take a look at this month's authors.
Remember if you are unable to watch the chat live, you can always go back and watch it at a more convenient time, or choose a past recording that aligns with one of your lessons.

Elementary Digital Resources
Resource of the Month
Teachers and students can access our elementary digital resources simply by clicking on the Library Catalog app within our portal.
The Library Catalog app allows you to access all the elementary resources that are provided by Northsides. Students and teachers can access Sora, TumbleBooks, Lightbox, Britannica School and so much more!
I have included a video explaining just how to access all these resources. I will continue to highlight a resource each month right here in our monthly library SMORE. In case you missed it you can access past SMOREs below. I have already highlighted Destiny Discover (August) and Lightbox (September).
The Fall Book Fair is Near!
Bring on the BookJoy!
It's that time of year again! The book fair will be here Friday, October 25th and will run through Friday, November 1st. More information and book fair flyers will be coming soon!
Teachers, take advantage of creating your very own eWallet to raise funds to buy books for your classroom library! You can create an eWallet and share it with your family and friends, or even post it to your social media accounts so they can donate funds to help you purchase books for your classroom. Once the eWallet link opens I will share the link with you all so that you can take advantage of this great opportunity!
The San Antonio Public Library is Another Great Resource!
Don't Forget About Libby Too
Teachers I just wanted to take a moment to remind you of our wonderful San Antonio Public Library. We have amazing resources here, but unfortunately we may not always have a book that you are looking for and you may need it before an interlibrary loan will arrive, so don't forget to check out your local library and see if they may have what you are looking for. Libby is also another great resource that provides access to numerous eBooks and audiobooks. Last month was national Library Card Sign Up month and the San Antonio Public Library just introduced seven new library card designs. Go sign up and get yours, I already got mine!
Soaring into the Final Four
Preseason is Here!
Third grade is registered and getting ready to partake in this city-wide reading competition!
Preseason reading begins October 15th, and although these minutes do not count towards the competition, it's a great opportunity to start encouraging our kiddos to read. I will be sharing a short presentation with third-graders and their teachers in the coming weeks to provide them with the contest information.
Let's get READING!
