SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING WEEK MARCH 3rd-7th
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Week is a time to reflect on how we can work on developing skills in the area of Self Awareness, Self Management, Social Awareness, Relationship skills, and Decision Making. Each of these skills can help your children be successful in school and in life. The following are activities that you can do with your child at home to support social emotional learning. Self Awareness can be strengthened by asking your child to list 3 things they are good at or 3 things he/she likes about him/herself. You can also draw or write about how you are feeling today. Self Management can be taught by having your child draw an outline of their body when they are feeling a strong emotion and coring where on their body they feel the emotion. You can also ask your child to make a list of things or activities that make them feel better when they are upset. Social Awareness can be learned by asking your child to list 5 things they can do to help a friend or a family member. You can also watch a movie or cartoon and ask them to put themselves in place of oneof the characters. Relationship Skills can be strengthened by playing board games or team sports. Your child can also write a thank you note to someone they appreciate. Decision Making skills can be developed by having your child plan a project and decide what is needed to complete the project. You can also play boardgames or team challenges. Click the link to view more Social Emotional Games.
