What's Happening This Week:
🌟 Welcome to Our Weekly Update! 🌟
Hello, wonderful families! As we embrace the cozy vibes of winter, we’re excited to share all the fun and learning that’s been happening in our classroom! Let’s dive into the highlights from last week and what’s coming up next!
Last week
We had a fantastic time exploring new concepts and engaging in exciting activities!
Next week
In Phonics, we will participate in shared reading and focus on identifying, blending, and spelling words with the diphthong /ou/. Here’s how you can help at home:
📚 Read Together: Choose books that include words like “out,” “cloud,” or “house.” As you read aloud, point to the words to help your child connect sounds with letters.
🔍 Break Down Words: When you encounter a word with /ou/, say it slowly (e.g., "ou" + "t" = "out"). Encourage your child to repeat the word and blend the sounds together.
✍️ Practice Spelling: After saying the word, have your child write it down. Start with simple words and practice regularly to build confidence.
💡 Learn High-Frequency Words: Create flashcards for common words like “about” or “could.” Regular practice will help your child recognize and use these words effortlessly.
Our spelling words for the week include: loud, how, down, count, round, frown, sprout, brown, before, done, about, and even.
In Reading, we will kick off Unit 9, where we’ll be introduced to goods and services. Students will engage in constructive conversations, follow discussion rules, and recognize characteristics of informational text, including text features like a table of contents. We’ll also use a picture dictionary to find words and illustrations to clarify meanings.
In Math, we have completed Topic 7 and are now diving into Topic 8, which focuses on the concept of tens and ones. This foundational knowledge is essential for understanding the base-10 number system and will strengthen your child’s skills in 2-digit addition and subtraction.
Things to remember
Encourage daily reading and spelling practice at home.
Engage your child in discussions about goods and services to enhance their understanding.
Reinforce the importance of place value in math through fun activities.
Until next time!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s learning journey! Together, we’re making great strides. Stay warm and cozy, and we can’t wait to share more exciting updates next week! ❄️✨
