National HIspanic Heritage Month
Celebration National Hispanic Heritage Month and help foster an appreciation for diversity. This allows students to understand and celebrate the rich cultural contributions of the Hispanic community. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th
GSA Club

Youth Mobility Fund
Students must complete an application and meet requirements to receive a pass. Limited number of passes are available for students.
Coach Tyler Germain awarded Michigan's Track and Field Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Kalamazoo Central School and Coach Tyler Germain for being selected as the MHSCA State Boys Track and Field Coach of the year. MHSCA State Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year selections have been based on the performance of their program over the years and/'or their contribution to the sport, school, and community.
Lady Giants Swim and Dive win!
Your Lady Giants Swim and Dive Team defeated Battle Creek Central in their SMAC dual meet, 124 – 36. The team won 9 of the 12 events. The 4x 50-yard Medley Relay team of Jesslyn Brown, Grace Totten, Delanie Rimes, and Bianca Boldt recorded the Giant’s 1st win. Totten recorded the Giant’s 1st individual event with her Personal Record swim in the 200-yard Individual Medley. Arianne Webb was right behind with her Personal Record and 2nd place finish. Brown, Luci Martinez, and Madison Moore posted 2nd -4th respectively. Moore’s 4th place point contribution came with her Personal Record. Madison Jones got her 1-meter springboard Regional qualifying performance with her win (2.4 point) win over teammate Kiya Bowman. Boldt won the 100-yard Butterfly with a Personal Record setting swim. Martinez got her hands on the wall in 2nd place! Rimes won the 100-yard Freestyle after leading from start to finish. Elle Nyirenda led the 2-3-4 place effort in the 500-yard Freestyle when she dropped 40.9 seconds from her Personal Record. Kate Risley and Brown turned in a solid swims with their 3rd and 4th place finishes, respectively. Maggie Spybrook led Webb, Teagan Tarnutzer, and Boldt to the win in 4x 50 Freestyle Relay. Rimes turned in a Personal Record while winning the 100-yard Backstroke. Spybrook was back leading Tarnutzer and Webb in a 1 – 2 – 3 sweep of the 100-yard Breaststroke. The evening ended with another KC win, the 4x 100 Freestyle team of Rimes, Totten, Balint and Spybrook.
Next home meet for you Lady Giants is Tuesday 10/1/24 at 6 pm when they host the Portage Northern Huskies. This should be an exciting meet as they are going after their 1st win against the Huskies in the 2000s.
History Club
History club will be having their first meeting on Thursday the 26th after school in Mr. Ihrcke's room, 312. Those interested please come to hear about the competition and potential travel to Washington DC! See you there.

Model UN
The Kalamazoo Central Model United Nations Team will have its first meeting on Thursday to kick off its season. We will meet in room 549 at 2:30 and go till 3pm. This is our intro meeting and we will have information for new and old members. If you are interested please attend and learn about what we do and where we go. See you there.

Senior Pictures
Just a quick reminder for all seniors: your senior photos are due November 25th! Make sure to submit them on time so you can be included in the yearbook. Don’t wait until the last minute—start getting those pictures in now! Photos can be submitted through the class of 2025 Google Classroom using the senior photo link. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Douglas.
GIANT Expectations
- IDs are required to gain entrance into the building. They must be worn at all times around your neck and displayed. You may purchase an extra ID from Mrs. Garza for five dollars.
- Hats, Hoodies, or Bonnets are not allowed to be worn in the building at any time.
- Cell Phones may not be used during class time or while on bathroom breaks. Students may use cell phones before school, passing time, lunch, and after school.
- To send in all student absences to CHSattendance@kalamazoopublicschools.net. If the absence is for a doctor's visit please remember to send in the doctor's office note with your email.
- All Chromebook issues will be handled in the Chromebook Room during lunch
Attendance Policy
Parent(s)’/Guardian(s)’ Responsibility:
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to notify the student’s school as early as possible on the day of an absence and explain the reasons for the absence.
Written or email verification of a student’s absence by a parent/guardian is required (unless otherwise indicated by the appropriate administrator) and should be provided to the school the day after an absence.
Student absences are considered unexcused if documentation supporting an excused absence is not provided.
After 3 consecutive absences, a medical note from a physician may be required.
It is the responsibility of the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to make arrangements with the teacher to obtain missed assignments due to absences.
What is an excused absence?
Student illness and/or appointment verified by the parent/guardian or medical professional
Medically verified extended illness or hospitalization
Attending a funeral
Religious holiday
Absence due to a subpoenaed court appearance
Any time missed due to KPS school transportation issues

Maroon Giants Speed Club
Attention all student athletes: do you want to sprint faster, jump higher, and grow stronger for your sport? Then the Maroon Giants Speed Club is for you. Speed Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the track (weather permitting) from 2:45 until 4:30. Our first day of training will be Tuesday, September 10th. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. See you there!

Giant Awareness - Support Leukaemia Awareness Month - Wear Orange
As September is Leukaemia Awareness Month, we invite everyone to wear orange to our sporting events in solidarity with our students who are bravely fighting their battle.
Your participation will help raise awareness and show our support for them and all those affected by this illness.
