Monthly Update-November 2019
November is here......with some snow!
It's crazy to think we are more than a quarter of the way through the year. Thank you for your continued support heading into November. We have many things happening at SHS that we can be proud of, both in the classroom and outside of the school walls with our activities. As we get ready to head into the holiday season, we thought it would be appropriate to highlight our goals again. Below you will see the established goals for the 2019-2020 school year and some of the structures and resources we have in place to ensure we attain them.
By June 2020, ALL 9-12 grade students will engage in meaningful career, academic and post-secondary experiences.
By June 2020, ALL students will have DESSA data to support any additional social-emotional needs.
By June 2020, the 6-12 math department will identify defined pathways and be proficient in the use of strategies within an MTSS framework.
By June 2020, 100% of ALL content area standards will be unpacked with learning targets created from the priority standards.
Building Structures and Resources Available to Support Goals and Priorities
Weekly Collaborative Learning Team time; Instructional coaching cycles; PLC facilitators; lead learning team; ICAP team, Building staff meetings; Weekly RTI team meetings; GWAEA, TAG, Special Education Department, School Counselor, LLI supports through Heinemann
The district has a new website that launches today! Check it out when you have some time. There is also an APP that you can download for your iPhone or Android device specific to the Solon schools.
Please note that there are NO parent teacher conferences in November as you may have had down. Please add January 23 and 30 as the new dates. We will be using the ICAP conference format again on those two dates. There will not be any in February either because of the two January dates. As always, if there is anything you would like to discuss with any of our teachers, please reach out to them via email.
Enjoy the weekend, and GO Spartans!

Community Book Read and Discussion
The Anatomy and Physiology class has started reading the book Panic Virus by Seth Mnookin. On Friday, November 22nd, students will be leading a community discussion of this book in the Center for the Arts lobby at the high school from 1:45-3:15 pm. I would like to invite you to read the book. Books are available for check-out at the Solon Public Library or Solon High School in the media center thanks to a grant from the Solon Education Foundation. Feel free to ask your son/daughter to check a book out on your behalf. Even if you don't get a chance to read the book, I encourage you to ask about what they are reading and/or attend the discussion. Please pass this on to anyone you think may be able to attend the community discussion such as grandparents or other friends and family. Reach out if you have any questions.
Thank you!
