End-of-Year 2024 Newsletter
A message from PVM High School Administration
As the year comes to a close, we reflect on what an incredible journey it has been! We've celebrated with numerous concerts, award ceremonies, the successful conclusion of spring sports, and the 137th Central Square Central School District Commencement at SUNY Oswego. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our students' success. Your support, along with their hard work and dedication, has been instrumental in shaping who they are today.
As summer approaches, we encourage you to take this time to relax, spend quality moments with your loved ones, and enjoy the beautiful weather.
We eagerly anticipate another fantastic school year after a well-deserved period of relaxation.
Thank you, Mr. Alberts, PVMHS Social Studies Teacher, for creating an amazing video that encompasses the entire high school Senior year experience.
A message from Mr. Villnave
To all of the Redhawks and Redhawk families,
It is with mixed emotions that I announce that I will be departing the Central Square School District. I have accepted a position at Cicero North Syracuse High School. Not only is CNS the school that I graduated from in 1994, but my children (DJ, a 2020 graduate, Brenna, a 2024 graduate, and Grace, a 2025 graduate) have had the opportunity to attend CNS as well. I want to say with all my heart, THANK YOU!! During my tenure here, I have been able to develop relationships with many of you in the community. Together, we have navigated numerous challenges, celebrated countless successes, and created memories that I will cherish forever. This was a tremendously difficult decision, as I have grown to adore the Central Square School District and the community it provides for our young people. I have come to appreciate everyone's hard work, dedication, and commitment to education, as well as the passion for nurturing the students of PVM HS and the community as a whole. I will forever hold onto the memories that the halls of PVM HS have created for me. I look forward to the continued successes of the Central Square School District and the bright future it will continue to offer the students. Thank you again, and I will miss you all.
Wishing you all the best,
Damon

PSAT/SAT/ACT Additional Information
- See where they are and set a target
- Find out about their AP Potential
- Enter the National Merit Scholarship Program
- Help pay for college
- Connect to their future
Why take the SAT exam?: Most colleges—including those that are test optional—still accept SAT test scores. Together with high school grades, the SAT can show your potential to succeed in college or a career.
Why take the ACT test?: The ACT is a good value because it offers a college admissions test, college course placement, and a career planning component for one modest fee. And you can make yourself visible to colleges and scholarship agencies across the country by taking the ACT. It’s a complete package of services to help you get ready for life beyond high school.
Additional Information:
- If you are planning on attending a four-year college or university, check each college's website to see if they require these test scores. Many colleges have adopted a test-optional policy.
- It is advisable to consider taking each test at least once (take the ACT with the writing section; the SAT no longer offers the writing section).
- If you are enrolled in a community college and intend to pursue your Associate's Degree, it's important to note that these tests are not mandatory.
- If your plan involves beginning your academic journey at a community college and transferring to another institution before completing your degree, it's worth considering that you may be required to provide these test scores.

To Walsleben's Team of Students:
I am filled with a mixture of pride, joy, and a touch of sadness. Watching each of you grow, learn, and mature over the past year has been a wonderful experience, and I am honored to have been a part of your lives for a brief period of time. Always believe in yourself—you are capable of achieving your dreams, no matter how big or small. Find your passion, and the courage to pursue it will follow! Success is not about talent but about perseverance and resilience. Don't be discouraged by setbacks, as life will be full of them. Rise above and move forward. Never stop learning; it is a lifelong journey. Knowledge is a powerful tool that will help you navigate the complexities of your life and make informed decisions. As you journey into next year, reflect a bit on last year and set a better path forward. Remember, hard work and dedication will help you achieve your goals. Stay focused, and remember that a new chapter awaits—make the most of it!
Mrs. Walsleben
The Central Square STEM Club won this year's Central New York Rocket Team Challenge. The students' knowledge in the physics of flight helped them design, build, and launch high-power rockets, including calculating estimated apogees and creating indestructible payload sections. A big thanks goes out to our sponsors: Syracuse University's College of Engineering and Computer Science, TACNY, SRC, and The MOST. The following students are pictured from left to right:

PVMHS Library News
For the month of May, Addison DiFulio helped Ms. Moore create a library hallway display highlighting both Asian-American & Pacific Islander Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. Addie researched and found statistics-based sources connecting the way AAPI-identified people experience mental health difficulties and providing tips on what to do and whom to contact for help. With her creative input, the display offered an interactive guide to these concepts for passers-by and promoted safety and respect for AAPI-identified students and families in the PVM HS community.
Mid-month, Ms. Moore was able to attend the NYLA Section of School Librarians conference, where one keynote speaker was YA historical fiction author Stacey Lee. Lee discussed her intentions as a Chinese-American writer and founder of the We Need Diverse Books movement: 'Stories spark curiosity about the world... stories tell people they matter... Not having stories leads to erasure... When we see ourselves in stories, we know we are not alone.' Ms. Moore is currently reading and highly recommends Lee's Luck of the Titanic, historical fiction imagined after Lee discovered that there were Chinese passengers aboard the doomed ship.

What you and/or your family raise will offset the cost of your Junior Prom and Senior Ball tickets, as well as improve the quality of these events and any senior celebrations. Like the past two years (Freshman and Sophomore), in lieu of "class dues" to fund all-inclusive celebrations, we humbly ask for donations to the class in September.
