The Tonasket setting is rural with magnificent topography of mountains and valleys. The Okanogan River, part of the Columbia River system, flows through the town of Tonasket. There are many lakes in the area, some large and others quite small. The climate is best described as semi-arid with four definite seasons.

The Tonasket School District is currently looking to fill a Middle School Paraeducator position starting in the 2024/25 school year.
The Tonasket School District is now accepting in and out-of-district applications for:
Middle School Paraeducator
- Highly Qualified Requirements for Paraeducator Required (High School diploma (or GED) – AND - also meet HQ requirements of an AA degree –OR- 72 quarter credits or 48 semester college credits –OR- passed the ParaPro Assessment)
- Starting 2024/25 school year

JOB DESCRIPTION
Middle School Paraeducator
DEPARTMENT: As Assigned
REPORTS TO: Building Program/Administrator
WORK DAYS: Monday – Friday, 7 Hours per Day, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm
The position is designed based on the district's needs on a year-to-year basis. Duties may be adjusted on a year-to-year basis depending on district needs.
BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tutor students individually or in small groups.
Conference with the intervention and/or classroom teachers to monitor student progress and to develop instructional objectives and appropriate activities for individual students.
Supervise students when needed.
Assist in compiling test data and keep required documentation and records.
Assist in administering standardized tests or curriculum-based tests as directed.
Maintain accurate student files.
Participate and manage student information of CST meetings as directed.
Complete required records in a timely manner.
Track student attendance, academic progress, and classroom performance.
Attend relevant inservices as they are available.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Assist with student/family communication.
Recess Duty – schedule (times, area, and grade level) assigned on a yearly basis.
Test proctor for computerized tests.
Help students in computer-assisted instruction.
Additional duties as assigned.
Behavior Intervention Para:
Supervise students needing behavior support.
Attend and participate in Tier 2 Behavior Meeting.
Observe students in classrooms to identify behaviors.
Participate in professional development opportunities to better understand student behaviors.
Provide reward opportunities to support the PBIS system.
Push into classrooms to provide support for students.
Facilitate the annual Cookie Dough fundraiser.
Right Response training required annually.
ES Work Room Duties Include:
Work Room
Complete projects assigned by staff
Operate and maintain all equipment in the copy room including:
- Copy Machine
- Duplicator
- Laminator
- Die Cut
- Assist in the Cub Den as directed.
ES Library Duties Include:
Know the organization of the library.
Assist the librarian as directed.
Check materials in and out of the library (Watch for holds and other unexpected messages)
Shelve and straighten collection daily. (Set aside items that need attention)
Housekeeping: dusting, watering, picking up, etc.
Lifting up to 25 lbs: books, equipment, etc.
Gathering resources for staff (teachers)
Provide assistance to patrons as needed or requested.
Find books for patrons and pull collections (for teachers, consult with librarian)
Help place and remove holds and check patron status
Utilize computer search
Help with other computer applications and projects
Facilitate high expectations, appropriate behavior, and procedures
Promote accountability
Deal with disgruntled clientele.
Collect and track lost/damaged book fines.
Destiny tasks beyond circulation:
Generate and distribute reports
Batch process items and patrons
Import and export data
Cataloging: Add AR information
Delete discarded items
Find prices
Make corrections as necessary
Find pertinent information by utilizing item or patron status and history to solve questions.
Process and repair books
Such as adding and covering spine labels, bar codes
Various book covering and repair and cleaning tasks
Suggest books for discard
Receive orders and reconcile packing lists and invoices
Technology: AV Equipment supervision and scheduling
iPad/computer cart management
Check-in/out
Clean each iPad and return them to appropriate settings after student/staff use
Update apps using Apple Configurator
Audiobooks
Check-in/out
Manually track student requests
Delete/download audiobooks in a timely manner
Other projects as directed such as:
Preparing slide shows
Displays
Help set up for presenters
Errands and deliveries
Miscellaneous reception and clerical duties
Assist with supervision of volunteers and student helpers
Assist with inventory
Processing magazines and newspapers
Migrant Student Advocate Duties Include:
The Migrant Student Advocate will support needs of migrant students and families with the goal of post-secondary education and plans.
Ability to speak Spanish fluently to converse with students and parents, required.
Work with the district’s Migrant Education Program Director/Coordinator and the school staff to identify and establish program and student goals in alignment with the district’s local plan and the State Service Delivery Plan.
Provide supplemental support and services focused on meeting the unique needs of migrant students.
Assist in coordinating services with other resources migrant students may be eligible and entitled to receive, including career and college planning and leadership.
Work with Migrant/Bilingual program staff to serve at-risk migrant students and families, including willingness to assist with periodic evening parent meetings (PAC).
Migrant/Bilingual Paraeducator
Assist the bilingual program students in varied instructional settings.
Ability to work with students individually or in small groups, within the classroom in a “push-in” model, or “pull out,” as needed and directed.
Conference with the ESL Specialist and the director to develop instructional objectives and appropriate activities for individual students based on language proficiency.
Assist in administering standardized tests or curriculum-based tests.
Assist in compiling data and keeping appropriate records.
Attend relevant trainings as they are available.
Assist in the supervision of students.
Monitor and assist students with computer-based programs.
Speak and write Spanish and English fluently to communicate with students and parents, required.
Ability to translate documents and correspondence from English to Spanish and Spanish to English, as supports and meets Bilingual/Title III programs guidelines.
Work with district Migrant/Bilingual program staff and building teams to serve at-risk migrant students and families, including willingness to assist with periodic evening parent meetings (PAC).
Migrant/Bilingual ECE Paraeducator Duties Include:
Ability to speak Spanish fluently to converse with students and parents required.
Assist in the student's educational plan, including development and implementation.
Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids for student instruction.
Implement and assist with behavior management programs as directed by the teacher.
Efficiently manage required forms, data collection, and record-keeping.
Assist with loading and unloading of students from buses.
Maintains sanitization of room, instructional area, equipment, and utensils.
Provide supervision in the school environment; playground, cafeteria, field trips, or other areas, as program guidelines allow.
Ability to use: Copy machine, computer, and various computer programs.
Ability to work with and take direction from multiple staff.
Work with district Migrant/Bilingual program staff and building teams to serve at-risk migrant students and families, including willingness to assist with periodic evening parent meetings (PAC).
Outreach Program Duties Include:
Tutor students individually and facilitate instruction in small groups.
Conference with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress.
Under the supervision of the certificated teacher, meet with selected students to monitor and document progress toward goals specified in the student's written learning plan.
Supervise students when needed.
Assist in compiling test data and keep required documentation and records.
Maintain accurate student files.
Complete required records in a timely manner.
Track student attendance, academic progress, and classroom performance.
Attend relevant professional growth opportunities as they are available.
Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Give assessments.
Assist with student/family communication.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Must meet federal guidelines for Highly Qualified by having an AA degree or 72 quarter hours or 48 semester college credits or documentation of successfully passing the state assessment.

Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check.
Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance.
Completion of Federal I-9, Employment Verification Eligibility form.
