A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run
Good evening, Sandy Run Families,
As we approach the Memorial Day holiday weekend - and the last few weeks of the school year - we hope that you and your family are doing well. It has certainly been an exciting time at Sandy Run over recent days and weeks - we have successfully completed PSSA and Keystone exam testing and our students showed great focus and responsibility. This year we took the Keystones online for the first time and it was a very smooth transition for our kids. We have also begun our Color Run efforts that will raise funds and awareness for mental health - a big thank you to our Student Council for organizing the event. We are also very proud of all of our student athletes for a great spring season - our PIAA teams just finished their seasons this year, while our Special Olympics athletes had a GREAT showing at Hatboro-Horsham High School yesterday. Special Olympics is always a highlight of the year for so many of us, and it was great to see so many students competing and having fun.
As the weather warms and students look ahead to summer vacation, it is often natural for there to be an increase in excitement and emotions. Oftentimes, that manifests itself in positive, exciting opportunities in and out of school. Occasionally, that energy shows up in less positive ways and we work hard as a school to support all of our students and families through difficult times. Recently, we have reminded students to reach out to an adult if they or a friend are struggling and we can help them through whatever difficulty arises. If, for any reason, there are broader concerns or updates, we will certainly communicate any relevant and appropriate issues to families. In short, we have a fantastic school community who is here to help any and everyone who needs it; and if there is ever a concern that arises we will communicate as transparently as possible.
As a reminder, there is an early dismissal for students tomorrow, Friday, May 24 with dismissal at 11:45. Schools and offices are closed on Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day holiday. I hope you and your family have a safe, relaxing holiday weekend. Take care.
Sincerely,
Dan Ortiz
