Harmony Education Center's Spring GED & CNA graduation ceremony took place on June 7 at Gladstone Community Center. There were 18 students who received their GED diplomas, and 6 students who were awarded their Certified Nursing Assistant certificates. The commencement address was given by students Kaori Sackett and Tristan Warren. Congratulations to all on such life changing accomplishments!

Congratulations to Autumn Clem and Eric Snaza for earning All Conference at the MSHSL Clay Target Championships in Alexandria. The Polars team finished first in our Conference!

Last week, the North Boy's Volleyball team participated in the State Tournament in Shakopee. They are the 2024 MN Boys Volleyball Consolation Champions!

Tartan student Ellie Volkers placed 7th in both class AAA 100m and 300m hurdles at the State track meet earlier this month at St. Michael-Albertville High School. Congratulations!

June has been an eventful month for our Community Bridge participants.
On Friday, June 7, Skyview Middle School hosted our Community Bridge Beach Party Dance, which was a great success! We danced to the tunes of the Beach Boys and other surf music groups. The following day, the 2024 T-ball tournament was held at Lakewood Hills Park in White Bear Lake. The tournament was followed by a picnic lunch and an award ceremony. And finally, on Friday, June 14, the Gladstone Community Education Center introduced a new event: Karaoke, Games, and Pizza Night! Participants had a blast singing Disney and pop/rock songs and enjoyed delicious pizza afterward.

Our very own Alice Kane, an advanced English student at Harmony Adult Education was celebrated in the Pioneer Press for her longevity and dedication to her job of 35 years at McDonald's. Alice has Down Syndrome and was quoted in the Pioneer Press to say that she hopes to one day train another employee at McDonald’s who has an intellectual or developmental disability.

“That way they can be independent and be the best they can be,” she said. Congratulations Alice! We're very proud of you!

The Community Ed. Dept. has been awarded a 3 year grant of $1.5 million dollars by the MDE to create new afterschool programming options for middle school students. The result of this grant will be the creation of the afterschool program F.L.I.G.H.T. (Future Leaders Inspiring Growth, Honor and Talent).

F.L.I.G.H.T will be implemented at both John Glenn and Skyview Middle School as a 5-day week afterschool program, with a daily operating schedule of 2-6 p.m. F.L.I.G.H.T. will be a completely free program, and will be open to all students attending either John Glenn or Skyview.

The main purpose of F.L.I.G.H.T. will be to provide students with a wide variety of enrichment clubs, academic support, leadership opportunities and culturally affirming clubs. Students will be able to participate in clubs with focuses on art, science, financial literacy, athletics, cultural appreciation, theater, debate, music and much more. Many clubs will also contain an academic focus that will qualify them as Targeted Services classes and that will allow students to improve vital academic skills while enrolled in the club. Clubs will be run by a combination of licensed teachers, paraprofessionals, outside vendors and student leaders from within ISD 622.

Minnesota has identified cases of measles in children who recently returned to the U.S. after traveling internationally. The decline in measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine coverage, coupled with the increase in measles disease nationally and internationally, puts Minnesota at risk of additional measles cases and a measles outbreak.
