High School Health Class Highlight
The Introduction to Public Health class has been learning about ten noteworthy public health achievements that have occurred in the United States. According to the CDC, one of those achievements is Cardiovascular Disease Prevention. As a class, we discussed several topics related to the cardiovascular system including, but not limited to: the anatomy and physiology of the heart, coronary artery bypass surgery, stroke prevention, and stroke detection using the FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time). As a culminating activity, our school nurse visited our classroom. Mrs. Berentsen discussed blood pressure, hypertension, and ways to lower blood pressure with lifestyle changes. She also provided students with instructions on how blood pressures are recorded. Overall, it was an informative unit which concluded with some outstanding educational opportunities provided by Mrs. Berentsen.
