Around the School Spotlight
Students are three weeks into the school year and academics are in full swing! This is the first year of our HMH Into Reading curriculum in our English Only classes, and the first year of HMH ¡Arriba la Lectura! curriculum in our Dual Language Immersion classes. It is exciting to hear the buzz of student learning happening in the classrooms. Students are engaged in word study lessons that provide the foundational building blocks of literacy and deep in discussions around literary elements like author's purpose. Teachers have been introducing the new routines of the reading and writing curriculum and gathering baseline assessment data to begin small groups. It is going to be a wonderful year watching the growth of all of our students at Hawks View.

Picture Day! Tuesday, September 24, 2024
Hawks View picture day is almost here. For online ordering information, and helpful tips to get ready, please see the flyer below. Picture envelopes should come home today via backpack mail. Extra envelopes will be available in the office if needed.
Mileage Club
Wednesday, 9/25 in PE, we are officially kicking off the Hawks View Mileage Club for grades 1-5. Mr. Pulfrey and Mr. Gregory are really excited because they understand that starting this mileage club offers numerous benefits for our students. It promotes physical activity, encouraging children to develop healthy exercise habits early in life. As students track their miles and work towards goals and rewards, they build a sense of accomplishment, boosting self-esteem and motivation. The club also fosters a sense of community, as students work together toward collective goals, creating friendships and teamwork. Additionally, regular participation can improve focus and academic performance, as physical activity is known to enhance cognitive function. Overall, a mileage club helps build a foundation for lifelong health and well-being. We are looking forward to seeing how far our Hawks can fly this year as a school, and how far kids run throughout their elementary careers!
Pick Up Procedures on 3rd-5th Grade Side of Lot
Parents who walk up to meet their child(ren) over by the portables at the end of the day…please wait over near the tennis courts/track. Our ask is that you do not come up to where teachers exit with students at the portables. It gets crowded really quickly in that area and it makes it difficult for teachers and students to get to where they need to go safely. We appreciate your help with this!
Back to School Night
Who: All Hawks View families are invited.
When: September 26th from 5:30-7:00
What: Back to School Night! This year again, we will be doing a dinner & open house event and students are welcome to attend with their parents! Dinner will be served, courtesy of Journey Church, between 5:30-6:30 in our cafeteria. There will be no set session times during the night, instead families can attend during the open house time that works best for them. Families will get to:
Visit classrooms and see some of the curriculum activities students have been working on
Visit our PE/Music/STEM classes
Meet other important staff members around the building
Please save the date and plan to join us for a fun family night!
Please Note: Parent/teacher conferences are coming up in October. The purpose of this evening is to get to know your child's classroom, teachers and staff in the school. We ask that individual conferences wait until the October date so that teachers can spend time talking with numerous families this evening. Thank you so much!
