Oct. Week 1: Engineering: Build a Catapult!
Observation: My (brother/sister/mom/dad) is working hard.
Question: What could I do to distract them?
Problem: How can I do it without getting caught?
Engineering Solution: Build a catapult to launch small items at them from a distance!
Things to think about:
What materials should I use to build my catapult?
How far do I want to launch my items (pompoms, mini-marshmallows, pencil top erasers)
What will I use as a container for my catapult?
Suggested Items to Use: (But don’t limit yourself to these!)
Pencils
Rubber Bands
Popsicle sticks
Kabob Skewers
2 liter soda bottle top
Marshmallows (of various sizes)
Elmers Glue (or sticky dots)
Tape
Results:
How far were you able to launch your item?
Did you try several different models or just try one?
Don’t forget to take a picture and submit it to your teacher on SeeSaw!
Reflection:
Could you make a larger version?
What materials would you use next time?

Thank You!
A big thank you to Kris Kubow, Al Enke, and Calvin Taylor for volunteering to help with some routine maintenance on our bike fleet. After getting all of the bike tires inflated and identifying some other small repairs that need to be done, we are hoping to get rolling during PE in October. We are so appreciative of their time and expertise! Thanks again!
