Back to School Night: THANK YOU!!
We had an AMAZING time at Back to School Night! Thank you to the plethora of families who were able to attend! Next year, we are going to look into a hybrid model with childcare offered to eliminate some barriers to attendance. If you were not able to attend, please reach out and connect with your teacher(s) to see if they have a slideshow they could share.
For our part, here is the district TAG presentation and ELD services info.
And THANK YOU to our AMAZING staff for making the night memorable! We appreciate all of you and all you do!

Here Comes the RUN - and it's a Monster Mash!
Time to Volunteer for the Most Fun Run of the Year
The Run for Hayhurst is a Monster Mash this year! It'll be part of an epic day of spooky, scary school fun because Trunk or Treat is that night. If you want to volunteer for our biggest fundraiser of the year, then please click here.
More to come on the Run for Hayhurst and Trunk or Treat to come!
Chances to Volunteer
NEW: Join the Hayhurst PTA for one of both of our PPS Clothing Closet shifts this year. The dates are December 5th and April 28th. It's a half-day shift in SE Portland, and it is always an interesting and impactful experience. Interested? Email president@hayhurstpta.org.
Volunteer at recess and lunch - which is really needed for grades K through 2 ! Please find those sign-ins on the PTA webpage by clicking here.
Our wonderful librarian Karin Reese needs volunteers in the library on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Please use this link to sign up for help with shelving books or working with students during their library time.
We also have a few roles open on the PTA team. PTA leaders coordinate all sorts of things that happen at our school, from staff appreciation to fun events, fundraising to communications. If you are interested in being an integral part of the Hayhurst community we all love and value, please email volunteer coordinator Norah Newman at volunteer@hayhurstpta.org.
ICYMI: Support OBOB!
Hayhurst has participated in OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) for many years. We’d like to continue that tradition this year- but we need your help! Due to budget cuts in the library program, OBOB will have to be parent-run this year. Adults will have to step up to finalize teams, organize
battles, create brackets, train moderators and be the general information hub. I will register the school with OBOB organization and be the liaison between the school’s OBOB committee and the school administration/district/organization.
If you are interested in working onthe OBOB committee, please email me so I can coordinate interestedparents. We need to register the school by the end of October so I need to make sure that we have families interested and willing to help.
Let’s send some Hayhurst teams to OBOB this year!!
