Principal's Update
Dear Kenwood Families,
Thank you for your kind words of support in response to my budget update. Your commitment to our school community is inspiring and deeply appreciated.
I wanted to let you know that Ms. Sue, Ms. T, and I will be in Uppsala, Sweden from April 5-13 to participate in an educator exchange. We’ll visit elementary, middle, and high schools and learn about the Swedish public school system. We’re so eager to be immersed in the Uppsala schools’ culture and climate and look forward to sharing our reflections with you! We all have guest teachers/principal filling in for us the week of April 8. VaNita Miller, retired MPS Principal, will be here to support students, staff, and families. She’s great!
Please mark your calendars: May 6-10 is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. When I ask teachers about their preferred ways to receive gratitude, they often say that letters of affirmation, specific and positive feedback, and students’ notes and pictures mean the world to them. As well as lunch! I share this with you now in case you’re inclined to take some time at home to help your children express their love for their teachers in preparation for the week of May 6. Thank you.
I wish you a wonderful and restorative Spring Break! We look forward to welcoming you back to school on April 8.
Reminder: No School March 29, Spring Break (April 1-5), April 10
- There is no school on Friday, March 29, due to teacher record keeping day.
- Spring Break begins Monday, April 1, and we will welcome students back on Monday, April 8.
- There is no school on Wednesday, April 10, in observance of Eid.

Teacher Appreciation Week: May 6-10 💝
In anticipation of national Teacher Appreciation Week, we encourage parents and caregivers to begin speaking with students about how they might express their gratitude. A kind gesture (e.g., thank you letter, positive feedback, artwork, treats, lunch) goes a long way to show teachers how much you appreciate them!
Get Involved with Kenwood PTA!
As the academic year wraps, Kenwood PTA is planning for next school year. The PTA would love additional support in these areas - Social Media, Teacher Appreciation, Yearbook, Fundraising, Read-a-thon, Classroom Art Residencies and the School Garden, in addition to always welcoming new members. Please reach out to KenwoodSchoolPTA@gmail.com if you are interested in learning more.
Volunteers Needed! Lunchtime True Food Tasting on May 3
Culinary & Wellness Services, school staff, partners and volunteers work together to conduct tastings of fresh, healthy, flavorful recipes at MPS. The goals of the tastings are to get students excited to try new flavors, textures, and ingredients and encourage them to think critically about their food (instead of just whether they like or dislike it). All students and staff receive samples during lunch and a sticker for trying the item.
We're seeking volunteers during lunchtime on Friday, May 3, to help assemble and distribute samples, interact with students, and collect feedback. If interested, please email Keri Mabry.
