Frayne Today
News & Updates K-12 | Term 4 Week 5 | 04/11/2024
Principal's Welcome
DEAR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, STUDENTS & STAFF
Welcome to another jam-packed issue of Frayne Today. It has been a very celebratory and joyous first few weeks of term.
On our Primary Campus the students have been kept busy, with trips to the zoo, assemblies and liturgies, a fun run and much more! It's always a hive of activity down at Balmoral and I look forward to meeting with some of the Year 6's this week.
In the Secondary School we have celebrated our Class of '24 graduation in style, with an assembly, a breakfast and a wonderful graduation ceremony held under the stars in the College main courtyard.
A special part of the term was the visit by global artist Mr John Adams. John painted live for our primary students, ran a Year 6 workshop, visited art classes on Duncan Campus, was guest speaker at our Art Exhibition and also accompanied me during my graduation address by doing a live painting. John will return to the College for two more events. One will be a Paint n Sip evening with parents, facilitated by Friends of Frayne, and the second will be as a special guest at Fr Nick's special 60th birthday celebration fundraiser.

TWO CAMPUSES + SIX HOUSES = ONE COLLEGE
I am pleased to announce that the campus names and House names (K - 12) have been finalised and fully endorsed by the College Advisory Council and CEWA. These names are embargoed until we have an appropriate time to launch.
We will now put a program in place to finalise each House values and identity through crests, mascots, colours and crosses and the all-important task of student House allocation. We will have this in place by end of term so that our 2025 new year can start with an exciting launch of the K - 12 House structure and 2025 House program.
I issue a heartfelt thank you to all staff who have been part of this historic working party. Arriving at a final decision has taken a great deal of time, discussion, discernment and emotional energy.
THREE-YEAR-OLD KINDY
I am delighted to announce that we have received all necessary permissions to implement a three-year-old Kindy at our College. Our first cohort of three-year-old students will start in Semester Two 2025. We will provide details on how to enrol in the near future.

JUNIOR SCHOOL INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
On Friday 25 October, Ursula Frayne (Years 3 – 6) students participated in the Interschool Athletics Carnival Division B at WA Athletics Stadium. There were eight schools that participated.
The students competed extremely well all day, tried their very best and demonstrated great sportsmanship. Our boys finished fourth, our girls finished first and overall, our school came first!
Thank you to all the students for their hard work and preparation leading up to the carnival and their participation on the day. A big thank you to all the teachers who helped, especially to Mr Gallanagh and Miss Semini, and to the following parents who assisted on the day; Michelle Denholm, Michael and Dale Szigligeti and Tracy Gordan-Velle. A big thank you also to our expert coaches; Neve Cook and Andrea Hardeman for training our squad.
Lastly, well done to Aston Fisher and Clementine Jones for setting new Interschool records in the 100m and 200m.

SEEDS OF JUSTICE
Throughout the year our Seeds of Justice team has focused on spreading awareness of modern slavery’s global impact. We launched two key initiatives: an Ethical Audit, where we assessed our college’s use of ethically and unethically sourced products, collaborating with departments across the school, and a Frayne Day Stall, where we engaged students with activities like a scavenger hunt and a brand-labelling activity to help them better understand ethical practices. These projects not only brought positive energy to our Frayne community but also encouraged us to continue making meaningful choices in our everyday lives.
The Seeds of Justice Conference Day 2 was a profoundly enlightening experience, allowing us to connect with like-minded students from other Catholic schools who share our commitment to addressing modern slavery, our social justice focus for 2024. Mr Darren Reynolds from #EveryDaughterMatters delivered a powerful presentation, sharing his heart-wrenching firsthand experiences of modern slavery’s impact, especially on children and young women. This insight, alongside learning about other schools’ initiatives, strengthened our motivation to advocate for change. We wholeheartedly recommend any student interested in social justice to join this impactful group.

RICE TUG OF WAR
The annual Rice Tug of War competition was a thrilling showdown among six homerooms, each fiercely competing for the championship title. Students gathered together on the astroturf, creating an exciting atmosphere. The event not only highlighted strength but emphasised teamwork, as participants strategised and rallied together to showcase their homerooms' spirit.
In the final round, Rice 2 faced off against Rice 6. Both teams gave it their all, demonstrating remarkable determination and collaboration in a gripping showdown. Ultimately, Homeroom 2's strength and strategy got them over the line, earning them the title of '2024 Champions' for the Tug of War competition.
This event was a fantastic celebration of homeroom spirit and camaraderie, showcasing the best aspects of our community. Congratulations to Homeroom 2 for their outstanding performance! A big thank you to Olivia Chambers and Kyah Fitzpatrick for helping coordinate the event, as well as all homerooms for their participation.

INTEGRATED STUDIES SWAN RIVER WALK
On Monday 14 October the students in Year 10 Integrated Studies took a walk by the Swan River near Optus stadium. The objective of what the students were doing was to detail the environmental impacts from buildings and construction work, water pollution and how human leisure activities affect the environment.
They then had to brainstorm solutions on how to improve the surrounding area. The students took a few photos of the environment, some organisms and themselves. We hope they can think of ways to help the environment.

ACC ALL STARS AFL
Recently, I had the pleasure of managing the ACC AFL All Stars Team. Starting with a talented squad of 85 players, the group was narrowed down to an elite side of 23, showcasing the incredible skill and determination of these young athletes. Congratulations to Frayne students, Luc Carles and Bryce Stirling for making the prestigious team.
Competing at the iconic South Fremantle Oval, the ACC All Stars, featuring some of the most talented footballers from the ACC, faced off against School Sport WA in a hard-fought contest. The match was a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the ACC representatives, who played with heart and resilience throughout the game.
The ACC All Stars emerged victorious, winning by five goals in a display of exceptional talent and sportsmanship. This victory not only highlights the skill of the players but also marks the highest honour in ACC sport—receiving a pin and the opportunity to represent the Association on such a significant occasion.
Congratulations once again to Luc, Bryce, and the entire ACC All Stars team for their outstanding achievement!
