ASB Election Results
Written by Alexander Tran
With over a 77% turnout, this year’s ASB election was one that was clearly marked with overall zeal and passion. Candidates campaigned here on campus and within their classrooms, convincing their peers to vote for them over April 4th and 5th. Posters, tarps, and flyers were plastered throughout the campus with their names, faces, and campaign platforms. All races were extremely close.
Congratulations to the respective candidates:
Jimmy Falk, ASB President
Sophia Griego, Senior Class Vice President
Susie Kim, Junior Class President,
Sophia Tran, Junior Class Vice President
Villa Park Rotary Club Speech Contest
What the Rotary 4 Way Test Means to Me - April 4, 2024
Villa Park Rotary Club held a Speech Contest in the VPHS library which featured four outstanding Spartans. We are grateful for Rotary's continued support of Villa Park High School!
Victoria Bates spoke about how she uses her inner voice to help calm and motivate her.
Francis Samson-Discussed using the Four Way Test as a leader in band and orchestra
Jocelyn Huang-Used the test to help her self-esteem and body image issues.
And Ally Zimmerman-Compared the Four Way Test to the Physician's Hippocratic Oath.
Each speaker did an excellent job with their content, delivery and poise, making it a difficult decision for the judges.
1st place went to Francis Samson; 2nd, Ally Zimmerman and, tied for 3rd, Victoria Bates and Jocelyn Huang. Each student received a monetary award based on their finish place.
Special thanks to the judges, Chad Zimmerman for making the arrangements, Brian Nielsen and Dan Gray for providing our bagel breakfast.
Principal McCuistioin went on to say how proud he was of the students. He discussed the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the collaborative effort he, the teachers, staff, and parents take to make sure that the school maximizes the potential of all the students during what he termed the"four most influential years of their lives." He discussed "The Spartan Way." Where S stands for Spirited, taking pride in their school, P is Prepared to complete all tasks, A is for Accomplished, always doing your personal best, R is for being Respectful of yourself and others, T is for Trustworthy, A is for being Adaptable to changes and situations and, N is for Noble, demonstrating integrity and being helpful to others.
Chad Zimmerman concluded the event by presenting a check to the school for $2500 to help sponsor their upcoming
Grad Night.
