The Writing Rope Class
Course Overview
This course will provide a foundation for effective writing and is recommended for teaching writing with K-12 students. Participants will participate in a book/implementation study of The Writing Rope by Joan Sedita. The Writing Rope organizes multiple writing skills, strategies, and techniques into five components that represent the elements of a comprehensive writing curriculum: critical thinking, syntax, text structure, writing craft, and transcription.

- Apply evidence-based practices in the classroom.
- Learn how to help students write to learn.
Class Structure & Dates
Participants will work asynchronously from October 22nd to December 3rd via Canvas. There will be three one hour sessions via Zoom to meet with the instructor for learning and review of the reading components. These take place on October 22, November 5, and November 26. These zoom sessions will be held from 3:45pm-4:45pm.
The Instructor will send an email to participants with the Zoom link, as well as instructions for how to access Canvas. The other dates posted can be flexible as long as you complete the designated number of hours.
All coursework is due by 11:59pm on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024.
Materials Needed
All participants will need access to the book "The Writing Rope: A Framework for Explicit Writing Instruction in All Subjects" (1st Edition) by Joan Sedita M.Ed.
