Principal's Message
Hello, AMS Students and families,
We’re excited to kick off Spirit Week this coming week! It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to show their school spirit and celebrate the season. Here are the daily themes:
- Monday: Ugly Sweater Day – Wear your most fun or festive sweater!
- Tuesday: Student-Teacher Switch – Dress as a teacher or how you think they’d dress.
- Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday – Embrace mismatched and quirky outfits or crazy hair!
- Thursday: Blizzard Blowout – Cozy snow day attire is encouraged.
- Friday: Candy Cane Day – Dress in red, white, or candy cane stripes!
To wrap up the week, we’re hosting our Winter ASB Event on Friday, December 13th, from 5:30–8:00 PM. The evening may include activities like karaoke, movie rooms, a DJ/dance room, sports tournaments, hot cocoa bar, video game competitions, and PTSA-hosted concessions.
Details:
- Tickets: $5 (lunch sales) or $7 (at the door, cash only).
- Concessions: Cash only—please bring exact change or smaller bills.
- Doors open at 5:30 PM, with entry closing at 6:30 PM.
- Eligibility: Students must have minimal discipline infractions and absences during the two weeks prior to the event.
We can’t wait to see our students embrace their school spirit and enjoy a fantastic week of celebrations!
As we get closer to Winter Break, we also have our winter band and choir concerts the following week, please be sure to join us and experience the beautiful musicians of grades 6-12. We are also collecting photos for yearbook page submissions, see the ad below for how to submit photos to be added to the yearbook for our school events.
Best,

Please note that student eligibility to attend the event depends on having little to no discipline infractions in the two weeks leading up to the event and little to no absences.
Staff Spotlight
Theresa McCartney:
Our 7th grade science classes are studying the causes of health issues and their impacts on human body systems. Students get to choose a health condition that has impacted someone they know as a focus for their end of unit research project. Then, we'll begin our unit on growth, focusing on processes that contribute to the creation of new cells through reorganization of food molecules.
Our 6th grade science class is studying the processes within the Earth's asthenosphere that creates movements of tectonic plates, and how different interactions of plates can create different experiences and features on Earth's surface. Next we'll be studying the Cascadia Subduction Zone as a specific and local example, to help us understand why large earthquakes could happen in Washington State.
William Hensey:
Choir 6th: We are gearing up for our Winter concert on Dec. 18th. Students have been hard at work cleaning up our music and having it sound our best all while laughing and having a good time.
Math 7: We just wrapped up our unit all about Circles and we are starting to dive into Percent Change as well as building more confidence with multiplication and division of fractions. Students have been making major strides in explaining their thinking to others and working with others to problem solve and persevere when they face a new problem.
Math 8: We are currently closing out our unit introducing Linear Relationships and will be heading into work Solving Linear Equations. 8th grade math can be pretty challenging as it is a major step in the direction of abstract thinking and students have been working hard to tackle this and extend their thinking.
AMS Athletics
Volleyball is underway! The first of 2 grade checks will be happening this week. Athletes can pick up their grade check form in the front office beginning Friday, December 13 and will be due Tuesday, December 17. Join us next month for a home game to cheer on our Hawks!
