A Message from Mrs. Moore-German
It was a pleasure to meet many of you this week at our Coffee and Connect Sessions! I'd like to thank our PTA Hospitality Team for providing our morning coffee. I sincerely appreciate the warm welcome extended by many, in person, by phone and via email. If we haven't yet met, I look forward to the opportunity at Fall Fest or during American Education Week!
I'd like to thank the parent volunteers who chaperoned the 6th grade field trip this week. We can't provide this type of enrichment experience for our students without your help. This is an amazing community and I'm so excited to work in partnership with you.
MCAP Individual Score Reports were sent home with students this week. This is one measure of a student's progress with grade level content standards. We hope that you find this information useful for academic planning for your child.
As a reminder, our make-up picture day is scheduled for October 23, 2024. In an effort to continue to provide a safe environment for students and staff, we want to be sure that the photos in our student information system (Focus) are updated. If your child didn't have their photo taken on the original picture day, we will ask that they do so on the make-up date. There is no obligation for families to purchase photos. Lifetouch has graciously agreed to print new ID cards for all of our students which we will begin using once they are delivered. Additional information will be forthcoming.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Moore-German, Acting Principal

Tuesday, October 22, 2024 Assembly for Grades 6 and 7
We’re very pleased to share with you that two of our own – Maddie Hawkins (Hereford High School (HHS; 2007)) and Brock Turnbaugh (HHS; 2014) – will join us on Friday, October 22nd, from 9am-11am for an exclusive engagement with our students.
Maddie is the Associate Athletics Director / Director of Recreation at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), a James Madison University graduate (2011) and is currently completing her MBA at the Sellinger School of Business, Loyola University of Maryland . Maddie was a student-athlete on the HHS Girls Lacrosse team. She was Vice President of the Hereford Ski Club, one of the original HLC coaches, and earned her EMT license in 2020. Brock is Assistant Director for Student Athlete Mental Health & Performance at JHU; a JHU graduate (2018); and was a starting goalie on the JHU men’s lacrosse team from 2015-2018. Prior to Johns Hopkins, Brock was a goalie for three HHS teams that played in the state championship, winning two of them. The 2013 team finished the season ranked #13 in the country. He captained the lacrosse, wrestling and football teams, and was the Maryland state champion for his weight class his senior wresting year.
Maddie and Brock will reflect on their middle school selves as they discuss the importance of aligning actions with goals; the connection between academics and sports with one’s future; their experience with the importance of collaboration; and their setbacks and moments that proved difficult towards achieving their goals and how they overcame them. Our students will also be encouraged to generate their own questions for Maddie and Brock from their Effective Learning/Advisory Instruction.
Weekly Attendance Tip
As we move deeper into the Fall & Winter months, the temperatures will begin to get cooler. It’s a great time to Monitor Our Health and Well-Being, by ensuring that our students are up to date on vaccinations and have a balanced diet to prevent illness. Be sure to address any emotional or mental health concerns early to avoid prolonged absences. We want to see all of our students #HereForIt as much as possible.
