Miller Science Got Moving with the Power of Kinetic Energy!
Miller Middle School 6th graders spent their week diving into the new curriculum, McGraw Hill Texas Science. Together they explored the concept of kinetic energy, which is the energy an object possesses due to its motion. To make the lesson even more engaging, Ms. McGrath used common phrases and terms for her students to be able to grasp the level of kinetic energy solids, liquids and gases possess.
Rattler Up, Badge Up!
San Marcos CISD's top priority is the safety of all students and faculty members each and every day across all grade levels, facilities and after-school extracurricular activities. However, safety is a shared duty—every member of Rattler Nation must actively contribute to ensure a secure and responsible environment for all. In doing so, we highly encourage parents and guardians to ensure their child(ren) are coming to school each and everyday with their SMCISD student identification card/badge.
Chamber of Commerce Business Expo
San Marcos CISD staff and students represented Rattler Nation at the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo on Friday, August 23. Thank you to the community members and the local business owner’s who visited our booth and cheered loud for purple and white!
Nico Quintanilla – FFA Band
San Marcos High School Future Farmers of America Member, Nico Quintanilla is headed to the National FFA Convention taking place in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Nico auditioned with students nationwide and was selected as a member of the National FFA Band and will perform for tens of thousands of participants in October. Congrats, Nico!
Rounding Review
The 5th grade Strikers of Ms. Sauser's class flexed their rounding skills and adjusted numbers to the nearest ten, hundred, or decimal place based on value to simplify calculations and estimations for clarity. By rounding effectively, students can make quick approximations, which is useful for problem-solving, budgeting, and interpreting data without needing exact figures.
Medication Administration Update
Prescription and over the counter medications brought to school by a guardian/parent can only be administered to the student during school hours with parental permission and a physician order. A completed Authorization for Medication Administration form is required to be completed and signed by both the prescribing physician and the guardian/parent to be returned to the campus health office. Medication must be in the proper container with a current prescription label or original over the counter medication label.
No narcotics, opioids, herbal medications/supplements, or CBD/THC containing products will be administered to students under any circumstances.
Vocabulary, Homophones, and Comprehension
Mrs. Higgs’ 4th grade Heroes spent Thursday, August 22, reviewing vocabulary, specifically common homophones prior to reading an excerpt from Peg Kehret's book, Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio. As a class students were able to strengthen their understanding of the text’s meaning, while recognizing homophones to prevent misinterpretation of words that sound the same but have different meanings. Shoutout to Mrs. Higgs for an effective lesson centered around enhancing clarity, reducing confusion, and improving overall reading accuracy and enjoyment.
Ragin' Rattler Invitational
