Wow, we really hit the ground running last week! Students and staff returned from break full of energy and ready to get back into the business of school.

A few Reminders for this week:

• Don't forget to wear Purple on Monday for military child month.
• Book Fair is on Monday & Friday

Wear purple to celebrate military kids! Purple references the joint environment of the military, encompassing all service branches, Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Veterans. Purple combines each branch’s colors into one: the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard all use shades of blue, the Army uses green, and the Marines use red.

The Book Fair will take place on Monday, April 14th, and Friday, April 18th, during your child’s

assigned library time.

How to shop:

• In-person during library time: All classes will visit the Book Fair during their regular library hours on Monday or Friday. If you choose to have your student shop, please set up their eWallet for easy, cashless shopping. You may also send them with money in an envelope (please make sure the envelope has their name and teacher’s name clearly printed on it).
• Online: Our Book Fair will be online with thousands of titles to choose from April 14th - April 27th, with 25% of every online purchase directly benefiting Silver Gate. Visit our HOMEPAGE for the link to online shopping. Share the website with grandparents and other family members. Books make great gifts!

eWallet:

• eWallet is a great option if you’d prefer not to send cash with your student. Set up your eWallet via the link on our HOMEPAGE. If you have any money in your eWallet from the last fair, you can transfer it to a gift card and use it to add funds to your student’s eWallet for this fair.

IMPORTANT: Any leftover money will NOT be returned to your credit card. Instead, it will stay as a credit with your Scholastic account for additional purchases at the fair or online shopping. If the balance is small, volunteers will direct your student to items they can purchase with the leftover amount. Any leftover amount under $2.00 will be automatically donated to Silver Gate’s Library Fund, which will allow our librarian to pick out books to add to our own library shelves.

Yearbooks will be passed out to the classrooms if they are purchased before May 15th. If you purchase after this date, please check with the school office for your book.

Ask your children how they can use their talents and passions to work with others. Explain that some of them are leaders in art, some in organization, and some in friendship. They are all leaders, and when they use all of their strengths, they can accomplish more.

Believe it or not, we are already thinking ahead to next year! In order to plan our classes for the 2025/26 school year, we need to have some idea of our expected enrollment count for August 2025. Please take this survey below and let us know if you will be returning and if your 4th grader will be going to Dana Middle School. If your child participates in After School Enrichment programs at Silver Gate, or would like to, you need to be checking our website for the most up to date schedules. There are dates where programs do not run within the regular cycle due to school wide events or early out days for conferences.

Please do not send your child to school when they are sick.

When your child must be absent for any reason, please call the office at 858-988-2200 ext. 1 by 9:00 a.m. every day of non-attendance, giving the exact reason for the absence. You can also email Renee Erickson at rerickson@sandi.net

Any child arriving after 7:50 a.m. must stop in the office and pick up a tardy slip. This is disruptive to your child and the entire class. Let's set good habits early in the school year to arrive on time. Silver Gate had the highest attendance in the Point Loma Cluster last year! Let’s keep up the good work!
