M-STEP Testing is Here!
Each spring, the State of Michigan and the US Department of Education (USDE) require us to assess students in certain subject areas through the M-STEP, PSAT and SAT. Wednesday, April 30 - ELA Day 1
Thursday, May 1 - ELA Day 2
Tuesday, May 6 - Math
4th Grade

Monday, April 21 - Math

Please ensure that your child is well rested on their testing day. They should come to school with a fully charged iPad .
Please note- We have makeup days built into our testing schedule, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness on their testing day- be sure to keep them home.
Also, due to recent updates in State testing procedures, cell phones, smart watches, and any bluetooth device (including headphones) MUST be secured during testing. We encourage students to leave these devices home on testing days when possible. When not possible, devices will be powered down and secured during testing
Parent School Climate Survey
This district is seeking your input. If you have not already, please take a moment to fill out the district climate survey. The survey is open to all parents/guardians, through Monday, April 14th. If you have children in multiple buildings, you may take the survey more than once. Each time you take the survey, it will ask for the building and grade level your child attends.
The data you provide may also be used by the school and district to better understand the current climate in the school(s) your child(ren) attends. Your answers will be combined with the answers of other parents at the school and district levels, and used to create records about the climate of our schools. These reports will not identify any person or their responses.
Exciting News – Hunt's Gymnastics is Coming to Salk!
We are thrilled to share that Salk has some exciting news! Hunt's Gymnastics will be visiting our school on April 29, May 1, and May 2 during gym classes. They will be bringing in real gymnastics equipment, giving students a fun and unique opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy movement in an exciting way!
We are so excited to partner with Hunt's Gymnastics for this special experience. In order for students to participate, a waiver form must be completed by a parent or guardian. The waiver is attached below and was also sent home with students.
All completed waivers must be returned to your student’s teacher by April 25.
We can't wait for this exciting event and are grateful for this partnership that brings new opportunities to our students!
April Town Hall
This week Salk held it's April town hall meeting. The town hall meetings are hosted by a grade level and run by the students of that grade. The purpose of the town hall is to recognize our character trait winners for the previous month and allow our students to share and explain what the new month's character trait means to them. April was hosted by our kindergarten students and they shared what determination means to them. Determination is April's character trait and teachers will be looking for individuals that demonstrate determination in their classroom. The winners will be introduced next month and be invited to a pizza lunch with the principal. Kindergarten did a great job!
In addition we also award our classroom winners for the most class hawk cash for the month. March's winners are Mrs. Gutc's class for lower elementary and Mrs. Jenk's class for upper elementary. Way to go!
Soaring with Character
Congratulations to March's winners who demonstrated exemplary character for March's theme: Optimism/Positivity
Students were rewarded with a pizza lunch and a fun game of eraser tag.

DTE and Consumers Energy Bring "Think Energy" to Salk 4th Graders
This week, our 4th grade students at Salk Elementary had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Think Energy presentation, hosted by representatives from DTE and Consumers Energy. The presentation focused on energy literacy and explored where energy comes from, how we use it, and ways to conserve it.
Through interactive games, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities, students learned how to be more energy efficient in their daily lives. As part of the program, each student received an Energy Efficiency Kit to take home, filled with useful products that help families reduce their energy use. A Home Energy Worksheet was also included, encouraging students and their families to apply what they’ve learned and track their energy-saving efforts at home.
Thank you to DTE and Consumers Energy for providing this valuable learning experience that empowers our students to think critically about the energy they use!

Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.
Downloadable directions are linked below. In addition, helpful videos and walk-throughs may be found linked HERE.
Charlie the Therapy Dog
Charlie has made visits to Salk the last couple of years with great success. Students are happy to see him and he really brightens the mood. Charlie will make his next visit the week of April 20th.
Charlie's purpose is to ease student's anxieties and increase positive emotions. We do not want his presence to cause fear or anxiety. As a reminder, parents have the ability to opt out of having their student interact with Charlie. If you DO NOT want your student to be around Charlie, then please fill out the opt out form linked here.
For the safety of students with allergies and Charlie, he will not be in the lunch room. Charlie will also remain out of classrooms in which parents have a student who opt out. Charlie will be under my supervision and kept on a leash at all times.
Rules for Interacting with Charlie:
Use calm bodies and inside voices when around Charlie.
Always ask before petting Charlie.
Don't take food around Charlie/feed Charlie
Free Meals for All
Although not required, we do ask that families complete the Education Benefit Form located HERE. By doing so you help ensure the school receives additional funding.
