A Message from the Principal...
From now until the end of the year, there will be many exciting things happening at our school and with our students. The warmer weather brings more outdoor events and activities, and the final months of April & May bring final experiences and memories for our senior class of 2023. We encourage all students and families to participate in all of these special activities & events! Strengthening the Westside community begins with our youth. Community and family engagement at our school is so important!
Sincerely,
-Ms. Rebecca Rieken

Freshman Turner Joy and 8th grader Andy Lam finished 19th. The 10th grade team consisting of Chance Riley, Vera Grom, Ethan Frazee, and Lance Weerheim finished in the top 15 out of 145 teams. Upcoming Iowa Assessments- April 18 and April 19
On Tuesday, April 18 and Wednesday April 19, all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will take the Iowa Assessments- ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress). They will be assessed in Math and English Language Arts.
Students will take their assessments in the mornings on both days in their Homeroom classrooms. We will follow a special schedule on those two days (see schedule below.) Busing will resume to the Career Academy and Harry Hopkins at 10:10am for 1st block.
*If a student attends the WITCC campus for courses in the morning, they should still go to that campus, and we will conduct make-ups with them at a later time.
The ISASP assessment provides our school with important information that helps our staff identify specific areas of learning need and improvement.
The assessment provides students with a measure of their learning progress, and their scores are sometimes used to determine eligibility for certain dual credit course options available through WITCC.
On April 20th and 21st all 10th grade students will take the Science ISASP assessment in their science classes.
All 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are required to complete these assessments. If they are absent the day of the assessments, make-up opportunities will be scheduled.
WHS Senior Days- April 18 and April 19

Share Your Feedback: Parents Conditions for Learning Survey
From April 1 through 28, parents and families of students in preschool through grade 12 have the opportunity to participate in the Parent Conditions for Learning. It coincides with the Conditions for Learning student survey which students in the District take the week of April 11. The parent survey focuses on areas that range from student safety and positive adult and student relationships to school rules and how they are enforced. Participation in the survey is encouraged, but it is completely voluntary, and all questions are optional to answer. Visit the District website for more information and a link to the parent survey.
