🐺 Weekly Howl 🐺
This week we hosted our first series of tryouts for the first season of sports: basketball, softball, and cross-country. We are so proud of all the athletes who came out and we are excited to see you play! Season 1 Family Information Night is on Thursday, August 29th at 5 pm in the Gym. This is where you can get your schedules, meet your coaches, and learn more about the program!
Groups are starting to visit the library, which is open M, Tu, Th, F – 7:45 am to 3:30 pm, W – 7:45 am to 1:45 pm. Keep an eye on this weekly message for information on our Book Fair coming in December!
Admin was able to visit every social studies class to review information on campus expectations. We covered many topics ranging from attendance to cell phones to speaking up when you see or experience something that seems a little uncomfortable. I am impressed with how quickly our 6th graders are making the transition into middle school. This is a big change from elementary, where they move between 5 classes and have a larger campus to traverse. Sometimes friend groups shift as there are a lot of new folks to get to know. They have done a fantastic job asking for help and making connections, and I trust they will have a very successful year. Our 7th and 8th grade students have been incredible leaders, helping to set a positive and helpful tone for campus. They are coming in with high expectations for themselves this year, and I do believe they will deliver!
Next week we begin iReady testing, which will help provide teachers with some diagnostic information to help with planning and instruction. This is a new testing platform for San Lorenzo Unified School District, so we are excited to give it a go!
Give all of our successes this week, we definitely felt the Friday energy and I am sure they are ready for some rest this weekend.
Have a wonderful weekend, Wolves!

COVID Protocols (as of 1/29/24)
- Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND your other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.
- Mask when you are around other people indoors for 10 days* after you become sick or test positive (if you have no symptoms). You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two negative tests at least one day apart.
- Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days*. Higher-risk individuals include the elderly and those who live in congregate care facilities.
- Seek treatment. If you have symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as soon as you test positive, especially if you are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
📴 Cell Phone Reminder 📴
Please remember that Washington Manor hosts cell phone free classes. During class times we ask that students turn off their cell phones, so that they can focus on learning.
Note to parents: Please do not text your student during the school day.
Instead, please call 510-317-5501 to get a message to your student.
