THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK

Wasco Weekly
May 9, 2025
Dear Wasco Parents and Families,
As we approach the end of the school year, we're excited to share some special traditions that honor our students' growth and achievements!
This coming week, our 5th grade teachers and I will accompany our 5th grade students to their future middle schools—Wredling and Thompson. During these visits, students will meet key staff members, tour the campus, experience a typical middle school day firsthand, and ask questions and address any concerns. These orientation visits help ease the transition and build excitement for the next chapter in their educational journey.
Also this week, our talented 5th graders will present their Fine Arts Showcase, demonstrating the creative skills they've developed throughout their elementary years. This special event celebrates their artistic growth and provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to appreciate their talents.
And, we are all looking forward to hosting our Wasco High School student’s Legacy Walk. This is now one of our most cherished traditions when Wasco graduates, who are now high school seniors, visit our hallways once more. We'll welcome them with a celebratory mini-parade, handmade signs, and enthusiastic cheering from our students. An added bonus: there will also be reunions with former teachers!
These meaningful events provide powerful role models for our younger students, showing them what they can achieve through dedication and perseverance. We're incredibly proud of both our 5th graders preparing for middle school and our Wasco alumni graduating from high school!
With kindness,
Mrs. Brennan

**Nutritional Thoughts from Organic Life**
Vitamins, minerals, proteins, fat, and carbohydrates are fundamental nutrients in any diet, but the specific makeup and amount varies based on your child’s age, activity level, and other factors.
Parent input due Monday May 12th
In planning for the upcoming school year, parents are invited to provide information that will assist us in the class placement process. Since every learner is unique, our goal is to pair each learner with an environment that maximizes his or her potential. Therefore, balancing classrooms based on student needs or talents, learning styles, and personalities are all factored as we compile class lists. As you can imagine, this is a complex process and a very important one.
We welcome any information that you would like to provide about your student in order to assist in making the best possible placement. Because of the many factors considered when putting a class roster together, requests for specific teachers will not be accepted. Clearly defining the needs of your child will be most helpful in making a good classroom assignment.
This information must be submitted by May 12th, 2025.
Field Day is May 23rd!
Our awesome FIELD Day is Coming!!
Wasco’s Field Day is Friday, May 23rd. We are working together as a Music, Art, P.E., LRC, and Stem team to provide a fun-filled day of activities. We need volunteers to run and assist with stations for our grade-level sessions. Your job will include working with other parent volunteers to lead the Field Day games and assist with Field Day activities. Please note that our volunteer opportunities are limited and are on a first come basis. The activities on Sign-Up Genius are listed by grade levels (Grades K-2 from 8:50 a.m.-11:20 a.m., Grades 3-5 from 12:40-3:15 p.m.).The start times above include sign-in at the office and a brief volunteer meeting prior to the start of the event. May 15th is the last day to sign up.
Since Field Day is a special day for Wasco students, please make childcare arrangements for younger siblings.
Due to timing and the end of the year, in case of rain or wet fields, the event will not be rescheduled.
Should you have additional questions, please contact the Physical Education teachers, Mrs. Julie Misner at julie.misner@d303.org.
Attention 4th-Graders! Get Ready to Join the Band!
Have you ever wanted to learn a band instrument? You're in luck, because all 4th-graders will have the opportunity to try out the band instruments in late May! These instruments include the flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion. Students will be able to try the instruments under the supervision of the band director to decide if they would like to join the program next year. All instruments are sanitized between individual students.
The band program pulls students once per week for a 40-minute small group lesson during the school day. These lesson times rotate each week so that the same material isn't missed from the classroom. Band students will also be committing to one morning rehearsal per week before school. These morning rehearsals are a mandatory part of the program, and parents must provide transportation to school on these mornings.
If you would like to opt out of trying the band instruments, please fill out this brief form.
We look forward to exploring the many band instruments with your child soon! If you're interested in learning about the instruments and seeing some videos, please visit our recruitment website HERE. If you have questions about the program, please contact your school's band director:
