MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
251st ISSUE: January 6, 2023
From the Desk of Mr. Cody O'Neill
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an amazing break and enjoyed their time over the holidays with family. The O’Neill family enjoyed their time off and celebrated the holidays with family and friends and enjoyed some down time.
A lot has been happening with winter sports since the season has started and our kids continue to excel both in the classroom and on the courts. This time of the year it is always tough because you have families who travel for holidays and a lot of times we have games prior to and post-Christmas. I really appreciated the dedication of all our families and athletes who were at practices and competitions over break!
We are looking forward to the rest of the winter season and ahead to the upcoming spring season, including the return of our softball program. Right now, we have a prospective player meeting on January 19th right after school with coach Maz and myself to get the roster together and start putting together open gyms. I will be meeting with some potential softball donors, who are families whose daughters played softball here at Marian and want to make sure that this program gets off the ground and thrives. For the 2023 season we will just be playing a JV schedule to get the girls experience, and then looking to it being a varsity sport again in the 2024 season!
A few things to note from college signings and commitments! On November 9th of 2022 we had four of our own students sign National letters of intent to play their perspective sport in college.
Luca Raso- Butler – Soccer
Kelsie McThenia – WIU – Soccer
Tessa Jones- IUPUI – Swimming
Kaitlyn Mullen- WVSU – Volleyball
Congratulations to these athletes! We look forward to watching their careers moving forward.
Last but not least on January 13th at 12:30pm in the auditorium, our very own Christian Bentancur will be making his college decision to play football at the next level. Christian will be deciding between Ohio State, Oregon, and Clemson. This is a monumental decision considering the last time we had a power 5 conference football player was back when Bryan Bulaga, Sean Cwynar, Jon Budmayr, and Chris Streveler were walking our halls here at Marian. His decision is open to the public and we look forward to seeing you all there!
Thank you and Go Canes!
Cody O’Neill
