Volunteer Badge Update
I have been in contact with Ms. Nancy from the Office of Safety Services and she is expecting to have badges complete and delivered to the school by the end of this week. She shared with me that she's matched up all of the background checks to the glamour shots, er, I mean photos. The next step is to get the actual badges printed. Once all have been printed they will be delivered to Kilgour.
When I have them in hand I will notify all of you by email to arrange your pick up. No further action is needed on your part. Just a bit of patience.
I have received a few questions since the event ended. I'd like to share those and the answers in case anyone else had the same question.
Q. What's the difference between a Purple badge and an Orange badge?
A. In addition to cost, Purple is $50 and Orange is $5, the color of the badge determines what level of access you have with our students. Purple badges allow unsupervised access. This is the reason for the dual BG checks which is the reason for the higher cost. Orange badge holders are not permitted to be alone with students and must be accompanied by a CPS employee at all times. As an example, Purple badge holders chaperoning field trips are permitted to have a group of kids on their own. An Orange badge holder would need to always be with a teacher or other CPS employee.
Please note: The CPS Office of Safety Services has informed us that it is not sufficient for an Orange badge holder to pair up with a Purple badge holder and monitor students. A CPS employee must always be present when an Orange badge holder is amongst our students.
Q. How long are badges valid?
A. Badges are valid for 5 years from the date of the background check. In other words, those of you that completed the BG check on 10/11/23 will have an expiration date of 10/11/28.
Q. Who do I contact at Kilgour with badge questions?
A. Our Resource Coordinator (Tywanna Watson/RC1) handles all badge questions. She can be reached by email at watsoty@cpsboe.k12.oh.us or by phone at 513.363.3076 during school hours.
