What is the Difference between the Parent Teacher Organization and the School Improvement Council?
There are many different ways parents can support our school. You can volunteer for field trips, help with our Bobcat Dash Fundraiser, and donate items needed. The list is endless and know that we could not do what we do without you. Our two main parent support organizations are our PTO and SIC. Here are the purposes for each of them and what they do. 1. Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)--There are three functions of PTO: 1. Fundraising for big projects that are out of the scope of district budgets. 2. Staff appreciation activities to encourage everyone who works at our school. 3. Securing volunteers as needed. PTO has monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 in the Media Center. It has an elected board of the following officers: Amanda Winters (President), Emmanuel Daniels (Vice-President), Celia Kerr (Secretary) and Shannon Martin and Caroline Stubbs (Co-Treasurers). 2. School Improvement Council--Serves as a sounding board for school administration and it looks for ways to help our school become better. It also reviews our School Renewal Plan and provides input for it. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 in the Conference Room. It has seven members who are elected for two year terms. Chelsea Eichorn, Jennifer Hutchinson and Matthew Query will continue as members this year. We will elect four new members for this next term. If you are interested in placing your name for nomination, click on the following link: https://forms.gle/GtbkMsjVNWqU28YV7. Please submit your nomination by the end of the day on Monday, September 9. We will hold SIC elections after that. All parents are invited to attend both PTO and SIC meetings.
Know that we are open to new and different ways that you can use your gifts, talents, and resources to support your child and our school. So many of you serve our children in such unique and valuable ways. You can always contact our administration with new ideas and opportunities. Thanks for all you do. One of the greatest assets of our school is our parental support.
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness
P.S. See information below if you want to complete your volunteer screening application. All approved volunteers must have an updated screening every two years and you begin the process by clicking on the following link: https://rock-hill.jotform.com/223140705783150
Monday, September 2, is the Labor Day Holiday.
Notes and Reminders
1. A Few Reminders
a. Parking for Visitors--From 7:45-2:10, we ask that that all visitors park in spaces available in front of the office or in the Sullivan Parking Lot. You will see yellow "No Parking" cones in designated areas. We often have large delivery trucks that need access to the main entrance and that need wide clearance to get through those areas. We also have buses picking up or dropping off for field trips that need easy access to the front. In addition, in the event of an emergency, we want to leave that area open for fire trucks or ambulances. Obviously, we ask that this area be left open for safety and security but we also would not want your car to get hit or damaged by one of these larger vehicles coming and going.
b. Parent Visitation during Lunch--That begins on Tuesday. Please remember to bring your ID for your security check in the office. Also, know that only those on the emergency pickup list can eat lunch and visit with a child. We will not be able to allow other students' friends to come and eat unless the adult visitor is on that child's emergency pickup list.
c. Parent Volunteers--Now is a good time to complete or update your Volunteer Screening if you plan to volunteer in our school or on a field trip or at Field Day. This has to be done every two years for it to stay current. To begin the process, click on the following link: https://rock-hill.jotform.com/223140705783150
2.The Online Spirit Wear Store is now open and will remain open through September 13th. The link to order is below. All orders will be delivered to school by September 27th. We will not be able to accept late orders and we are not able to offer returns or exchanges.

3. Birthday Book Club Volunteers--We are gearing up for our Birthday Book Club celebration for the year! We will celebrate on Thursday, September 5, 2024. We will be celebrating August and September Birthdays on this date. Each child receives a free book of their choosing for their birthday! We need volunteers to help distribute the books during each students lunch time. You will find the sign up time slots on the sign up genius linked. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE AN APPROVED VOLUNTEER THROUGH THE DISTRICT! It is district policy that all volunteers have been approved. Thank you so much for your help! Parent Organizations
Parent Teacher Organization--This group has three main goals: Raising funds for the school, appreciating the staff and securing volunteers as needed. The Cherry Park PTO is a 501c3 tax deductible organization. Meetings are held at Cherry Park on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 PM (right after the SIC meetings.) All parents are invited to attend. All financial records are distributed and updated at each month's meeting. Officers this year are Amanda Winters (President), Emmanuel Daniel (Vice-President), Celia Kerr (Secretary) and Shannon Martin/Caroline Stubbs (Co-Treasurers). We appreciate all of our sponsors (above) who contributed to our Bobcat Dash this year.
