October 2024
Students were eager to run the course during the Fun Run! It was awesome to see the smiles on students' faces as they completed their laps and gave a high five to our mascot, Timber!
THANK YOU, CREW!
October is always a busy month, and this year was no exception! It has been wonderful to engage with so many families at the Fall Festival, conferences and Homecoming.
Even more, we are so grateful for your support in our annual fundraiser. We surpassed our school goal, with pledges from online, cash and checks totaling $28,946! We also sold over $3,000 in tickets for the Fall Festival! Much of the money from ticket sales covers expenses from the event, and any additional money is put toward our overall fundraiser. With these donations, we can support the following opportunities for students:
- Field Work
- After School Programs
- Student and Class Celebrations
- School Events
- Teacher Support
- Additional Books for the Library
Ms. Massey and Ms. Vue are ready to become human hot dogs! We will be announcing the date of that experience, as well as sharing the class prizes and individual student prize information very soon. Thank you again for your generous support of our students and school programs! Thank you also to PIE for all of their efforts to host a fun-filled event for our school. It was a blast!
After studying how poets are inspired to create art, 4th grade students visited the Clyfford Still Museum last week to learn about how other artists are inspired.

Trailside SAAC Update
What is SAAC?
The School Accountability and Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a group of families and school personnel that meet quarterly. We discuss student achievement and growth data, and families can provide input on school goals, strategies to engage families, and priorities for spending.
When does SAAC meet?
We meet from 5:30-7:00 each quarter. Our first meeting was September 25. Our next meetings are December 18, March 12 and May 14.
9.25.24 Agenda
For more information about the following items, please contact Jessie Massey (masseyj@mapleton.us).
- Enrollment Update
- 21st Century Grant Requirements and Update
- School Performance Framework and Unified Improvement Plan goals
- 2024-2025 Budget Allocations and Projected Spending
Attendance Update
September was attendance awareness month, and Trailside had an average attendance rate of 93%! Students with 2 or fewer absences in September got to pick a prize from the prize cart. Students with two or fewer absences in October will be entered into a raffle to win larger prizes at our community meeting on October 31. Keep up the great work, Timberwolves!
Please remember that tardies and early dismissals do contribute to time missed at school, and arriving after 10:30am or leaving before 1:00pm will be marked as a half-day absence. Let's make sure we're here every day, all day to maximize learning!
Chromebook Chargers
This year, Mapleton is asking families to purchase replacement chargers if students lose the one assigned to them. Most students are leaving their chromebooks at school to charge. However, if your student brings their charger home, please be aware of this change in policy.
Students show off their "Backpacks" during Spirit Week!
Halloween 2024
We will be celebrating Halloween at Trailside on Thursday, October 31st! Students are invited to wear costumes to school. Please be sure our younger students are able to take costumes off independently. More detailed information will be coming from classroom teachers. Make sure you are connected on Bloomz for the most updated information! Here is the schedule for the day for K-8 students. Preschool teachers will communicate their schedules:
- 1:00 6th-8th Grades Leader of the Pack Assembly
- 1:30 Kinder-5th Grades Leader of the Pack Assembly
- 2:00 Pk-6th Halloween Parade
- 2:30 Classroom Parties
SEL and Sources of Strength
In October, students have been engaging in lessons from Unit 2 of Sources of Strength. This unit, "Brain and Body Science," aims to help students understand the connection between their brains and their bodies. Neuroscience tells us that our brains are continue to develop, heal, rewire and grow throughout our lives! Students explore "The Brain Tree" metaphor - the roots (Brain Stem), the trunk (Limbic System) and the branches and leave (Frontal Lobe). If one part of our brain is firing a lot, it can impact how our body acts. Through self-awareness and regulation strategies, we all can grow a balanced "Brain Tree."
