SEPTEMBER
2024
Our focus for the month of September within the Character Counts framework is on RESPONSIBILITY. Students demonstrate the trait of responsibility by taking ownership of their lives and acknowledging their power to choose what they think (including their attitudes and mindsets), say and do, and their accountability for the consequences of their choices.
Character Star Assembly
We will celebrate our elementary Character Stars of the month during the event that have shown the mantra, “The time is always right for me to do what is right, as well as our MYP students that embody that, "When people talk, I listen completely,” as a communicator. Invited families only will be in attendance.

Throughout the month of September, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members come together to raise awareness and promote suicide prevention. Remember, suicide is preventable and we all have the power to make a difference. Not only does Franklin Academy work on building better people everyday, we help build a community that prioritizes mental health and well-being.

House Bill 1537, signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis, established September 11 as 9/11 Heroes' Day to honor those who perished in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. This year, we will observe 9/11 Heroes' Day on Wednesday, September 11. In recognition and observance of HEROES' DAY, students are encouraged to wear RED, WHITE and BLUE with their UNIFORM BOTTOMS.
School Picture Day will be held on Thursday September 12, 2024. Students must wear their regular school uniform—no PE uniforms or spirit shirts are allowed to be worn. The order form for your photo package is attached below, available on our school website, and has been physically sent home with students. Families can also pre-order and pay for photo packages at www.foxmar.com/prepay by midnight before our Picture Day event on September 12.
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CONTESTS
In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated this year from September 15 to October 15, all Florida K-12 students are invited to participate in academic and creative contests based on this year's theme: “Honoring Hispanic Contributions to Florida’s Success.” All entries must be received by 5 pm on Friday, September 13, 2024.
SEPTEMBER 16 - SEPTEMBER 20
Every year, thousands of schools and youth organizations across the country participate in Start With Hello Week, a national call-to-action focused on fostering new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among young people. This initiative teaches students how to build meaningful relationships, combat loneliness, and support one another.
Loneliness and depression can cause children and youth to withdraw, and in severe cases, lead to self-harm or harm to others. #StartWithHelloWeek empowers students to be more inclusive and connected, helping to create a positive, supportive community.
- Local author Debbie A. Thomas will be joining our K-5 students to read her delightful book, King Kenny and the Fox's Cape, to all of our elementary classes, as a special guest reader this month.
- The book focuses on the importance of respecting others, being humble and treating others the way you want to be treated.
- Everyone wants to be embraced and included.
Student Interim Reports for our first grading quarter of the 24-25 academic school year will be sent electronically to Grades 1-8/MYP Y3 parents/guardians on Wednesday September 18, 2024. Please login to your PowerSchool account and make sure the email we have on file for you is the one where you would like to receive your child's report prior to this date.
- You are invited to join us for a sweet treat at menchie's, in the Cobblestone Plaza, on Wednesday September 18th, 2024, from 2–9 PM!
- A portion of the proceeds from all sales will benefit our school, so bring your family and friends for a fun event and tasy treat at menchie's.
- We really hope to see you there!
The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed globally each year on September 21, and was established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution. This day is dedicated to uniting humanity in the commitment to peace, transcending differences, and fostering a Culture of Peace.
The 2024 theme, "Cultivating a Culture of Peace," marks the 25th anniversary of this important declaration. Let’s all strive to make Peace Day every day.
