Safe Firearm Storage: What Families Need to Know
Texas law now requires school districts to provide parents and guardians with information on safe firearm storage. Proper firearm storage helps prevent accidents and unauthorized access, ensuring the safety of children and the community.
Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, it is unlawful to store, transport, or abandon an unsecured firearm where a child could access it. A person may be held legally responsible if a child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm due to negligence.
The Keep ’Em Safe Texas campaign, developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety, offers free resources on safe gun storage, including guidance on how to talk to children about firearm safety.
For more information and access to downloadable resources in English and Spanish, visit Keep ’Em Safe Texas.
Community Section
Join us as we celebrate AHS Alumna Mia Navarro, who is now cancer-free! 🦅❤️ To mark this incredible milestone, we invite you to a Benefit Concert on March 19 at Marty B’s.
Enjoy an unforgettable night of music featuring former AHS choir teacher Will Griswold as the headliner, along with special performances by AHS Alumni Matti Rose and Trillium A Cappella.
In the spirit of giving, we encourage attendees to bring a donation to support Children’s Health & Envelopes for Hope. Let’s come together as a community to celebrate Mia’s journey and give back to a great cause!
