Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
The talents and treasures of our performing arts family are on full display throughout this weekend as ALHS’s signature performance of Anastasia The Musical is already underway. After an extraordinary opening night yesterday evening which I attended, the community is highly encouraged to watch this unforgettable live performance. You can purchase tickets online here. Performance days and times are:
Great job to our talented cast, hard-working crew, advisors, individuals responsible for all of the behind-the-scenes tasks, and the Drama Boosters for their exceptional efforts here.
Conversations with Superintendent Joelle Magyar
The community has given the district positive reviews with various communications efforts, and in the spirit of continuing to produce and present relevant content in creative and multiple ways, we encourage you to watch this video short below, the first of an upcoming series, where I visit students in their comfort zones, their buildings, to ask them about the importance of learning spaces, their role in the greater community, and what we can do to positively impact their futures. Watch this video interview with Troy students below.
Issue 16 and Issue 17 on the May 2025 Ballot
The ALCS has two issues on the May 2025 ballot. Issue 16 will be the bond issue that goes toward the new construction of a Grade 5 through 8 building at the Learwood location and to make repairs at Eastview, Redwood, and Westview Elementary Schools. Issue 16 requests $88,085,000 and would cost taxpayers $96 per year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. Issue 17 will be the operating levy for the purpose of general operating expenses, would generate $3 million annually, and would cost taxpayers $69 per year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. Combined, if passed, Issue 16 and Issue 17 would cost Avon Lake taxpayers $165 per year for each $100,000 of county auditor appraised home value. Thank you for taking the time to get informed.
Latest Issue of Facility Focus Newsletter Now Available
As an additional resource to keep the community updated on important news regarding district facilities, our Department of Operations has released the latest issue of the Facility Focus online newsletter. The community will find updates on significant projects underway in our academic and fine arts spaces, information about design work in process for possible renovations of the Learwood Middle School track, and final preparations, weather permitting, for the completion of the new tennis and pickleball facility at the high school. The ALCS community can also find more detailed information about proposed repairs to the remaining elementary school buildings pending voter approval of Issue 16, the district’s bond issue on the May 6, 2025 ballot. Please view the latest issue of the Facility Focus newsletter to learn more.
Get Ready for Bike Week and Bike Rodeo Events
The cold, grey skies of early spring will soon give way to warmer, sunshine-filled days, just in time for several highly anticipated, bike-themed events for our PreK-8 students taking place across the district during the month of May. The district will host a fun Bike Rodeo event on Saturday, May 17th from 9-11:30 a.m. at the North High School parking lot. In case of inclement weather, the Bike Rodeo will be moved indoors to the Auxiliary Gym.
During the Week of May 19th, all elementary schools and Learwood will celebrate Bike Week during which PreK-8 students along with their families are encouraged to ride their bikes to and from school. Both events are great opportunities to promote physical activity, bike safety, family fun, and school spirit! We hope to see you then!
State Testing Continues
Finally, we ask Avon Lake City Schools families for their continued support, patience, and efforts to keep our students prepared, alert, and comforted during a stressful testing season. Please make sure our students are getting enough sleep, are properly nourished, and encouraged at home. There’s no need to place undue pressure on our students, just encourage them to do their very best. We have a wonderful support system in the ALCS, and because of this, our leadership team is confident that testing will remain smooth and successful as it continues. Thank you for your continued support.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Joelle Magyar
Superintendent
