Sharing The Homeschool Heart... When you don't feel like you're cut out to homeschool.
For well over a decade now, I have had thousands of conversations, especially as a Family Liaison for Inspire, about parents deep down heart concerns regarding homeschooling. So many of you worry that your seven-year-old will never learn to read, or that your 5th grader will never be able to master spelling words, and the biggest of all- will you even get them to be able to graduate high school?
I relate so well to these thoughts. I spent years thinking of them myself. Something I regret is thinking them for too long. In the world of homeschooling, these thoughts are valid and do hold some weight. For someone like me, who hates math and doesn't want to even think about a math concept past the 6th-grade level, logically, I have to consider who is going to teach my children math, past sixth grade. This is a logical thought process and something to consider when choosing the homeschool path, but not something to hold you back.
When you homeschool through Inspire, you are supported by a large team of highly enthusiastic advocates. A group of men and women with decades of personal homeschool experience, supportive educators with endless amounts of curriculum knowledge in every curriculum category that exists, a thoroughly educated team of personal cheerleaders who understand all parts of homeschool philosophy of education and who are willing to walk alongside you and guide you through a very successful homeschool journey.
When those thoughts creep in that you can't cut it, or that you aren't educated enough to educate your children, stop and remember that men and women have gone before you and have taken on the great task of home education. You, too, can provide a stellar education for your children, especially in today's world. Technology is at your fingertips in every smartphone you possess; the library is filled to the brim with knowledge, facts, and information. You do not have to go far to find answers. You can truly learn anything you want in a moment's notice. Teaching your children to harness the power of education in today's world will give them the ability to be free thinkers, self educators, independently motivated, hard-working individuals who can achieve anything they set their minds to. Once you start believing that and vocalizing that, their opportunities multiply just because they know they can do it - because you said they could. Changing your mindset changes their futures.
Once your confidence is built, look to the opportunities that Inspire provides. If you find yourself lacking in something, use your instructional funds for a tutor. Look in the city around you and surrounding towns for classes that might help support where you feel you need additional assistance. Maybe a group-like math class is just what you need to get your junior high student to the next level. Once high school hits, you have endless options for your students. You can stay the primary educator and educate them through high school or piece out each class with some of our highly qualified teachers in Choice Plus Academy or online platforms. The truth of it is, there are no dead ends, there are no closed doors; you have the power to educate your children, and Inspire gives you the support you need every step of the way.
For me, as a once very skeptical homeschool mom many years ago, all my fears have subsided. I no longer worry that this is not the right path. I no longer have the fear that I won't graduate my children. I no longer worry about a child struggling to read because I have seen the process many times, and I know it's a process. I've watched my children step by step struggle, then understand. It's normal. It doesn't mean we've failed or not done enough. Every child is different and needs different support. Keep going. Keep pursuing an education in the way that best fits your family, your child, and your lifestyle. Speak positive truths into your homeschool day. Let your children know you're their advocate and that you are fighting for their educational freedom. Be positive in your pursuits and surround yourself with people who encourage your homeschool path. I want you to feel the joy and freedom that comes with home education as I do now. Keep going, weary homeschool warrior. You are enough. You will succeed.

Audrey Everson
Hi everyone! I am a mom of 3 awesome kids ranging in age from 10 to 6 years old. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been married for 16 years. Having homeschooled our children over the last 6 years in 3 different states, I've found homeschooling here in California, especially with Inspire Charter, has been a great fit for our homeschool journey. I am grateful for our ability to homeschool so freely and I aspire to assist other families with their own homeschool adventures!
