HRHS Activities Newsletter

Welcome to this week's Activities Newsletter! We are entering the "dog days" of the fall season as teams have worked off the summer rust and found ways to adapt their play to this year's rosters. Weather has been less than cooperative, but we are looking at a good week this week full of action on Stage Road! We hope to see Raider Nation out in full voice, cheering FOR THE RAIDERS and pushing the home team to be their best!

The best place for up to date schedules will always be ArbiterLive! Be sure to follow your student athlete's teams so you can receive emails the moment games are updated.

On Thursday October 6 we will have our annual Activities Fair as part of the Open House here at Hampshire Regional! Representatives from all of our Winter and Spring teams, as well as all of the clubs we offer here at Hampshire will be in the cafeteria! Be sure to stop in and learn about all of the opportunities for your students here at Hampshire.

Golf

The Raiders have continues to impress on the links! Since our last update our golfers have posted a 3-1 record, including a 12.5-11.5 win over Ware at Beaver Brook, avenging a loss from a few weeks earlier!

Girls Soccer

The Varsity Girls Soccer team has continued to perform at a high level, highlighted by two big wins over Chicopee Comp (7-1) and Wahconah (5-1) at home! Maisie Bowler and Ella Forest have 5 goals apiece to lead the attack. JV has continued to make progress, losing close games to Pittsfield and Wahconah either side of a great win over Chicopee Comp!

Boys Soccer

The Varsity Boys Soccer team dropped its first league game on Friday, falling 4-0 on the road to Chicopee Comp, but have otherwise looked like a team on the rise! Big tests await this week as they travel to Northampton HS on Thursday before hosting an improved Monson side on Friday. The JVs also hit a bump in the road with a road loss to Central, but tied a strong Ludlow team before taking care of business against Holyoke.

Field Hockey

The Field Hockey team's weather luck is perhaps the worst in Western Mass. After a close loss to Belchertown, the Raiders went on the road for a convincing 5-0 win over Palmer! The girls will play 6 games over the next two weeks, however, and will have plenty of opportunity to show what they are capable of! JV likewise will has a bevy of games over the next few weeks.

Cross Country

The Cross Country team continues to roll along in its dominance of the league on both the boys and girls side! Both teams swept past Easthampton, Monson, and Frontier last week and will host Hopkins, Southwick, and Pioneer Valley on Tuesday!

Gymnastics

The defending league and Western Mass Champions will open their 2022 season on Tuesday evening in Zalot gymnasium against Chicopee Comp and Westfield. 6:00pm!

Football (Easthampton Co-Op)

The Eagles have had two tough contests, dropping a 7-0 decision to Monument Mountain and falling to a very talented Amherst team last Thursday. They head back to the Berkshires this week for a Friday evening contest with Hoosac Valley!

FANS SHOULD BE LOUD, PROUD, AND ALWAYS POSITIVE

We will be taking issues of poor sportsmanship very seriously and poor behavior by coaches, players, or fans will not be tolerated. We encourage everyone to spend some time with the NFHS Sportsmanship course for reminders of what good sportsmanship and fan behavior looks like.

We are in the midst of an ongoing officials shortage. Criticism from spectators is the leading cause of experienced officials leaving the high school ranks for collegiate officiating or leaving officiating completely. The way numbers are trending, we will not have enough officials to play JV games in the next year or so.

24 Hour Rule

Because coaches have much to think about prior to a game and are highly emotional following a game, we ask that parents not confront a coach with any concern within 24 hours before or after a game. Often, these situations lead to emotionally charged discussions that bring no resolution. Waiting 24 hours after the conclusion of a game will allow both the parent and the coach time to “cool down” before discussing a concern.
