With November being national diabetes awareness month, it’s a good time to shine a spotlight on diabetes! By learning more about diabetes, you can tend to your own health and be a supportive resource for others.
Diabetes basics: Our body breaks down most of the food you eat into sugar (glucose) and releases it into your bloodstream. When your blood sugar goes up, it signals your pancreas to release insulin. Insulin acts like a key to let the blood sugar into your body's cells for use as energy. With diabetes, your body doesn't make enough insulin or can't use it as well as it should. When there isn't enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin, too much blood sugar stays in your bloodstream. Over time, that can cause serious health complications.
Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes:
Urinating frequently, often at night
Feeling very thirsty
Feeling very tired, extreme fatigue
Lose weight without trying (Type 1 Diabetes)
Feeling very hungry- even though you are eating
Blurry vision
Have numb or tingling hands or feet (Type 2 Diabetes)
Have very dry skin
Have sores that heal slowly
Have more infections than usual

Attention Battle of the Book participants! The second battle will be in December!! We are hoping for Dec 16 or 17th. This is earlier than we hoped, but there is plenty of time to read AND reading more than one book helps your team tremendously! Our battle breakfast talks are Tuesday/Thursday mornings at 8:30-8:44 if you’re able to pop into the library.
Library and resource damage fees can easily be paid online following the steps at this link https://az-deervalley.intouchreceipting.com/ Let’s clear those accounts so kiddos can resume checking out books! If a lost book is paid for and is found before the school year is over not damaged, your money will be refunded. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email me at dana.hinton@dvusd.org.
Bring on KNOWvember! Our collection has many wonderful nonfiction books and students will be encouraged to try a new genre this month.

🎊Kindness is well underway for students at Park Meadows Elementary. We have seen students cleaning windows around the campus, leaving notes on the gym door for the PE teachers, making a THANK YOU sign for our custodian, and much more. Kindness can increase your sense of connectivity with others, decrease loneliness, combat low mood and improve relationships. It also can be contagious, encouraging others to join in with their own generous deeds.

Good day Park Meadows Families!!
October went by super quick, at least for me it did. My family was busy with birthdays, and my son in high school had 3 marching band competitions and this Saturday is his semi final competition. It's been busy, but as always it has been fun. I hope all of you have had a wonderful October and are enjoying the nice cool weather.
For this newsletter I am going to give you the next couple of months events since we have Thanksgiving break, which means, not many newsletters coming out. Our first even we have coming up is our Raising Canes night on November 6th from 4-9PM at 2804 W. Bell Rd. Come on out and enjoys some YUMMY chicken and fries! Then on the 19th we have Kona Ice here at the school during your child's lunch recess. I know it's getting cold, but if your kiddos are anything like my kiddos, it's never too cold to eat some Kona Ice!
Then in December our first event will be our Grinch Night on the 6th! This is such a fun night to bring your whole family out to and to just enjoy yourselves. Then the day after Grinch Night, we have our Goodwill Drive. This is such a great time to get rid of your unwanted items and all you have to do is drop them off here at the school on the 7th from 8-10AM in our front parking lot. You don't even have to get out of your car if you don't want to. For every pound that gets donated, we get money back!
Lastly we have Kona Ice on the 10th during your child's lunch recess time.
I know this month and next month get crazy busy, but I sure do hope you all get to enjoy your time with your families. Have a good one and until next time.
