To gain maximum benefit from this course, participants should know what curricula their local school board has approved. You MUST complete the asynchronous virtual portion before attending the synchronous virtual session. The asynchronous content and pre-work assessments will be sent to you after registering for this course. You will have access to a Google slide deck with two videos for your viewing and two accompanying assessments to test understanding. MDE "strongly recommends" attending this training every five years.

MDE LGBTQ+ Students Project
Upping your Game: How Coaches and Athletic Directors Can Support the Full Participation of LGBTQ+ Student-Athletes
**RESCHEDULE FROM 11/13** Wednesday, January 15, 2024 | 8:30-10:30 AM | Register Here
This session will include the use of interactive breakout groups
School sports can be an extremely positive experience, strengthening student-athletes focus, perseverance, integrity and teamwork. But many LGBTQ+ student-athletes face unwelcoming and even hostile environments on the field and in the locker room. This can lead them to stay closeted, drop out of sports, or never try out for teams at all, excluding them from receiving the benefits of sports participation. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the experiences of LGBTQ+ student-athletes, barriers to participation, legal requirements, and best practice strategies that coaches and athletic directors can employ to ensure all students, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression (SOGIE), can fully participate in all aspects of school, including athletics. Coaches and athletic directors can be proactive leaders, building an environment in which LGBTQ+ athletes feel included and welcome. A foundational understanding of SOGIE is recommended, but not required. Teams of coaches and athletic directors are encouraged to attend.

InPACT Classroom Activity Program
Are your students getting restless before the holiday break? If you're a K-5 teacher, try incorporating InPACT into your classroom routine! It’s a fun and engaging way to help kids release energy, refocus, and make learning more enjoyable. Get those wiggles out together!
InPACT stands for Interrupting Prolonged sitting with ACTivity. InPACT is an evidence-informed, classroom-based physical activity program that enables teachers to deliver 20 minutes of health-enhancing physical activity in the classroom every day. We recognize that classroom teachers will need to master three important skills in order to successfully implement classroom activity breaks: classroom management, curricular integration, and student motivation. This website contains resources and training modules to help teachers overcome the daily challenges of mastering these skills.
Did you know InPACT also coordinates with the Michigan Model for Health lessons? Check out a fifth grade module for Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs. You might recognize a local teacher in lessons 3, 5, and 7!
