Ordean East Middle School News

As we enter into 2nd semester of the 24-25 school year, it's the perfect opportunity for our students to reflect on their learning journey and set new goals. During advisory we are working with students to write a reasonable, measureable goal for 3rd quarter, and we are hoping that you will support us in encouraging your student(s) to focus on improving or maintaining good time management and effective use of class work time. We recognize that these crucial skills are essential for our students' future success, yet we have observed that they are consistently challenging for many.

Please also note that 2nd quarter/1st semester grades will be finalized and available on Infinite Campus on Wednesday, January 29th. The grading window was extended due to the high number of illness-related absences last week.

Let's support our students in making this semester their best yet! Together, we can help them increase their enthusiasm for learning. Here's to a fresh start and fantastic second semester!

Week of Jan 27: All students will receive a 7th grade registration worksheet in Computer Literacy and SWS classes.

Students are to take home, review with families, and return the worksheet to Computer Literacy Mr. Kiehn or School Counselor Ms. Seglem.

Where: 8th Grade Math Classes

Who: Current 8th grade students and School Counselors

What: East High School Counselors visit 8th Grade to present about East High School and courses to register for. Students will receive a paper registration worksheet to bring home to complete with their families. Students can return their Registration Worksheets to their English Teachers as soon as they are complete.

OEMS 9th Grade- Registration

Date: Tuesday February 25

Time: During school day

Where: 8th Grade English Classes

Who: Current 8th grade students and School Counselors

What: East High School Counselors return to Ordean to Register current 8th grade students for 9th grade. Students must bring their completed paper registration worksheet and / or already turned it into their English teachers. This worksheet will guide their registration in Infinite Campus

25-26 Incoming 9th graders!

Join us for a fun and informative East High Registration Information Night the evening of Thursday, February 13th from 5:30-6:30 in the EHS Auditorium. All current 8th graders and their parents/guardians are welcome to attend. East counselors will give a presentation including info on registration, enrollment, and expectations. There are optional student-led tours to follow.

Stay afterwards to watch the East High Boys Basketball team take on Denfeld @ 7:00 PM!

OEMS Orchestra Concert will be on March 11 at 7:00 P.M. in the OEMS Gymnasium. Mark your calendars!

OEMS Advanced Orchestra will be participating in MnSOTA Middle Level Orchestra Festival in Bemidji on March 18, 2025. If they succeed into Tier 2 they will perform in Orchestra Hall on Monday, April 7, 2025.

We're on a mission to keep our students' creativity flowing, but we're running low on pencils! If you could donate a pack or two, we would greatly appreciate it. Donations will be accepted from now through the end of the school year and can be dropped off in the main office.

OEMS Staff

The Duluth Public Schools K-12 Math Committees are inviting interested family and community members to participate in the Math Curriculum: Family and Community Member Survey. This survey asks for feedback regarding both the current Duluth Public Schools math curriculum as well as suggestions for the new or revised curriculum as they work toward implementation of the 2022 Minnesota Math Standards. The committee will review the feedback as part of their process to review, revise, and adopt a new math curriculum during the next couple of years. The survey can be found here and is open until January 31st, 2025. Thank you in advance!

On January 22nd there was an informational meeting about a trip to Washington, DC that Mrs. Vang hosted. In order to go on the trip, travelers must fill out an application by Wednesday, January 29th to be considered. It was not required to attend the meeting to fill out a Traveler Application.
