May Pod Parents Sign-Up
In May, the Pod Parents Committee will be working with the Hospitality Committee to provide support for teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. We are looking for parent volunteers that are available on Tuesday, May 7th and Wednesday, May 8th. This is the final month during this school year that pod parents will be offered.
As you may know, pod parents is a volunteer program where parent(s)/guardian(s) assist any participating teachers & staff with projects, tasks, and/or other busy work. Volunteers may float amongst the six (6) pods (K - 5th grades), the Main Office and the Library to complete any work during their designated time slot.
Teachers & Staff are looking for help on:
- Tuesday, May 7th, from 9:00 - 11:00 am ONLY; and
- Wednesday, May 8th, from 9:00 - 11:00 am and 1:00 – 3:00pm;
Please sign up via the below link:

When you arrive at the school, please:
1. Check into the front office for the Pod Parent directions. You will need your driver’s license and the completed volunteer registration form, which can be found on the SASD website.
2. Once checked in, you can proceed to any of the Pods, where there will be instructions that participating teachers have left for the volunteers.
3. Please note that all volunteer work will be completed in the Pod and not in the classrooms. Please do not enter the classrooms or otherwise disturb classroom learning. Further, younger siblings may not accompany the adults while volunteering at school.
4. Please be respectful that pod parent volunteer time is not a time to hold individual conversations with your child's teacher or to visit the classroom of your child.
5. Kindly check with Mrs. Smerecki (Main Office) and Mrs. Porco (Library) to see if they need assistance.
6. If you have completed your work, and you are not able to find any additional work, please be advised that you are not required to stay for the full two (2) hours.
7. Finally, if you are not able to complete the project, please leave the instructions and materials in the pod as you found them for the next group of volunteers to work on.
If you have any questions and/or concerns, you may reach out to Kristen Viscardi at keviscardi@gmail.com.

Please join us in viewing "Trolls Band Together" at Vernfield Elementary, with the movie starting at 8:30 pm outside at the school. Please bring blankets and snacks.
This event is not a drop-off event and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please see the accompanying flyer for more information.
A Big Earth Day Thank You
The Earth Day Committee would like to sincerely thank the parents who volunteered their time to help make 2024 Vernfield Earth Day celebrations such a success!
On April 19th, there were over 500 students who rotated between 7 outdoor stations throughout the morning or afternoon at Vernfield. All of these stations were run entirely by over 40 parent volunteers, including a record number of fathers! Thank you!
Volunteers helped with seed planting, painting, relay races, yoga, wood chips raking/shoveling, and helped students filter water & look for bugs in the stream.
The Committee would also like to thank Living Hope Farm for volunteering to be the guest speaker. Michelle spoke to students about reducing food waste through composting and had students helping to rip composting paper for use at Living Hope Farm.
More information about Living Hope Farm can be found on their website: https://www.livinghopefarm.org/
