π From the Principal π
Hello Mohawk Families!
It's hard to believe the 100th day of school is right around the corner and spring is not far behind! Teachers are busy preparing for spring field trips as a way to enrich the curriculum and provide students with fun experiences. We just finished our winter benchmark testing and hope you are excited about the progress your child has made so far this year. The Mohawk Staff is committed to providing all students with a focused instructional program while meeting their individual needs.
February is Black History Month. We celebrate the contributions African Americans have made throughout all periods in U.S. History. It is a great opportunity for families to have conversations about the experiences Black people have faced. It can also remind us to shine a light on the injustice African Americans still face in this country. Below is a Smore that highlights Black History Month. It is full of information and resources for you use at home with your children.
This year, we will begin our reading month activities on February 24th. Our theme this year is "Catch the Reading Wave". We will be sending home the reading month packets before our winter break but you can catch a glimpse below.
As always, thank you for your continued support during this challenging school year. Enjoy the snow with your children!
Educationally Yours,
Ms. Andrea Verellen

π₯ͺ FOOD SERVICE NEWS π₯
Ordering Lunch π±
It is important that students order lunch the day before they plan to eat from the school cafeteria. When students do not order lunch, but come up to get a meal, it leads to unexpected shortages and impacts the next group of students.
Our cafeteria team works hard to prepare enough food for everyone, but accurate lunch orders are essential for us to serve all students effectively. If your child tries to get a hot lunch but has not ordered it the day before, they will be given an alternate option.
Hereβs how you can help:
- Review Lunch Procedures: Please remind your child to order their lunch the day before. Teachers normally take lunch count in the morning for the next day.
- Pack a Lunch as a Backup: For added flexibility, packing a lunch is always a great option.
Your support helps us ensure every student receives a meal and maintains the smooth operation of our lunch program. If you have any questions or concerns, please donβt hesitate to reach out to us.
Congratulations!
During January, students took their mid-year FastBridge reading benchmark assessments. These assessments are valuable tools that help us understand where your child is in their reading journey. Scores on these measures provide insight into whether a student is on track to achieve grade-level reading skills. Additionally, students make a reading goal and then work hard to achieve that goal.
Below are some of the students who met their reading goal!
