What Does The Fox Say?
March 13, 2025
Dear Parent/Guardian,
During 3/7/25's Friday Celebration, I announced some of the Staff Experiences that will be auctioned during the PTO's Boots, Buckles and Bids Spring Auction Event. Afterwards, a kinder student came up to me. He was pouting and using a bunch of words strung together that I did not understand. He said something about, "It's not fair..." and something about classes getting pizza. I cupped his cheeks in my hands and said, "I don't understand. What is going on?" He had tears in his eyes, his lower lip protruding even more than before... Then I realized. He was upset because he wanted to eat pizza with his teacher but his teachers name wasn't announced with the Staff Experiences. I explained that it was up to the staff members what they offered because they were offering the experiences and that there were more Staff Experiences that would be announced the following week. Oh sweet thing. He just wanted to spend extra time with his teacher. We LOVE that!

Arts Showcase, 2nd-3rd Grades, 3/19/25 from 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
We are so excited to present the 2025 2nd and 3rd Grade Specials Showcase! Come and see what your students have been working on this trimester.
- In STEAM, 2nd and 3rd Graders embarked on an exciting exploration of biodiversity within habitats! In 2nd grade, we discussed the different habitats found in Colorado and decided to narrow our focus to grasslands and mountain habitats. In 3rd grade, we expanded our knowledge of habitats and researched grasslands, mountains, rainforests, deserts, oceans, temperate forests, freshwater systems, and polar habitats. Scholars engaged in hands-on research to learn about various animals that inhabit these ecosystems, delving into their unique adaptations and roles within their environments. Students utilized multimedia tools to create vibrant 3D habitat models, bringing their animals to life within their respective habitats that we would love to share with you!
- In Drama, 2nd and 3rd Graders have been learning all about different Vocal and Movement Choices that we can use to help show our emotions and make us better actors. We explored Vocal Choices like Tone, Projection, Pitch, and Inflection, as well as Movement Choices like Gestures, Expressions, and Levels, and then put them into practice with a variety of activities. At this showcase, you'll get an opportunity to see the 2nd Grade perform a dramatic reading of the classic book, "We're Going On A Bear Hunt" complete with sound effects and props!
- In Art, 2nd grade students learned about the rich history of papier-mâché across the globe and started learning about the meticulous, messy process. First, students chose an animal, considering their unique features and planning their ideas on paper. Then they created 3D attachments to highlight these features, securing them with paper and paste to form their masks. Afterwards, the artists painted and added decorations to showcase the uniqueness of each animal they created.
- In Art, 3rd grade students learned about weaving from around the world. They explored the meditative over-under process of weaving with yarn on a loom. Students critiqued one another throughout this process. After getting the hang of things, students began their second weaving, which was inspired by the colors, shapes, and patterns of candy. They created a plan to follow, finding the perfect colored and textured yarn for each row to ultimately make a pretty sweet weaving!

Battle of the Books, 3rd-5th Grades, 5/6/25
Our Battle of the Books competition is coming up on Tuesday, May 6th, and it’s not too late for students to participate! Even if your child hasn’t been in our weekly enrichment, they can still join by reading or listening to the books on our list (see this pacing calendar and book list). We’d love to have as many students as possible join in the fun!
- To support students who haven’t been in the weekly enrichment, we will have a practice quiz during Lunch Bunch the week of April 14th to help them review and check to see if they have a general understanding of the books.
- At the competition, students will not be working individually, but will be working in teams of four. Teams will collaborate to answer questions about the books, responding with the book title and author to earn points. As students are working on each book it is important they remember the full title and the author's name.
- If you have not previously reached out and your child is interested in participating, please reach out to Libby Phillips at libby_phillips@dpsk12.net so we can arrange Lunch Bunch quiz time and share additional event details.
