From Mr Will
Welcome back to Term 3 at Holy Spirit. I caught myself this morning that we are almost in August, how did we get here in the back half of the year! I hope that you had a restful school holidays and if nothing else, didn’t have the daily lunchbox grind that we are all too familiar with. We have a very full term so lets get right to it.
Recommendations
I have a new podcast recommendation for all those Science buffs out there. As you know we changed specialist classes this Semester from Digital Technologies to Science. Our teachers now possess the key knowledge to integrate DT in the classroom, so this made great sense. In adopting Science I thought I would brush up my scientific knowledge and started listening to The Science with Dr Karl Podcast. I have become hooked! If your children are into all things Science, I can recommend this one. The majority is very child friendly, and Dr Karl has a great way of explaining Scientific facts and phenomenon that is easy to understand. Some facts I have learnt from Dr Karl are that we have 37 trillion cells in our body, the world is around 4.5 billion years old and koalas have thumbs!

As you may know, the enrolment of future students is a major focus for our school. Through a great deal of hard work and the positive word of mouth from our wonderful community we have a number of future classes that are now full, please see below:

We have limited positions available for our 2025 Pre-Primary, Year 2, Year 4, 5 and 6 classes. If you have friends who are interested in joining our community or you may be moving in 2025, please inform our school office via our enrolment email: enrolments@holyspirit.wa.edu.au as soon as possible. This information will ensure that we can properly plan for our 2025 school year and potentially accept students we have on our wait list.
Pulse Survey
I often speak with our children and staff about the aggregation of marginal gains, which is an Atomic Habits phrase. Getting a little bit (1%) better every day. In that mindset, we have created pulse surveys for our students, staff and community members. Our office is putting the final touches on these, and you should have them sent out in the next few weeks. This will give us great data to continue the great work that is already happening and add value where we can.
Tipping
Well, my tipping has become so bad that my 11 year old son is comprehensively beating me. Sometimes you just must have a good long hard look at yourself and accept that you have to do better. I wish all those tippers in contention good luck; you possess far more tipping skill than I.

Book Week 2024
Holy Spirit will celebrate Book Week on Wednesday, 21st August with the traditional Book Week dress up day. Dress up day involves the students dressing as a character from a children's book or in a costume that reflects the current theme, which this year is "Reading is Magic".
The focus for dress up day is to encourage participation and make it a fun day for everyone.
The students will also talk about Book Week in their library lesson. We welcome all students to participate and come dressed in costume!

Before/After School and Vacation Care
Holy Spirit is delighted to offer Before and After School Child Care through Quest Early Learning.
When: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
Times and Cost:
- $30.00 for before school care which operates from the Art classroom between 7am and 8:45am
- $41.70 for after school care which operates from the school hall between 2:50pm and 6pm Mondays to Fridays
Years: Kindy to Year 6
(Children can attend in the calendar year providing they are due to turn four by 30th June)
For students in Kindy and Pre-primary, OSHC staff will drop off/pick up at the classrooms as per our school policy.

We understand that not everyone can make it to the shop during opening hours, however
WE KINDLY ASK THAT YOU DO NOT ENTER THE UNIFORM SHOP WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Even if the door is unlocked, please speak with the front office before entering the store.
We welcome your donations to sell at the shop. Please just drop them at the office.
