It is endearing to watch our students lead their families through the critical thinking process they complete each day. Watch our school calendar and join our next night out.

Read with ASA in March - week 3 update
On March 11th, students in grades two through eight were able to be a part of Bookelicious Presents: Kate DiCamillo. This presentation was in honor of the 25th Anniversary of DiCamillo’s book Because of Winn-Dixie. NJHS sponsored this event as part of ASA’s Literacy Month.
During the Zoom call, Kate DiCamillo read the first chapter and then discussed how the novel came to be. She shared that Because of Winn-Dixie was her first novel and that she created the character of Winn-Dixie because she could not have a dog at the time. DiCamillo also talked about the themes that run through the book which are forgiveness, family, friendship, and finding your way home.
When speaking with the interviewer about what inspires her, she shared that she has always been a reader and that she feels that books are the most magical things. DiCamillo hopes that her books help her readers to feel less alone and that they are a part of the party. The call ended with teachers and readers blowing out a candle on a jar of peanut butter to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Because of Winn-Dixie!
Our theme from RULES this week is Acceptance.
This week we continue our novel, Rules, and discuss why accepting differences in others develops our own character. Our novel study has prompted great conversations among our students and staff. Thank you for continuing this conversation at home.
Check out our photos below to see how we celebrated this week! Thank you to Father Mark and Charlene from Outback Steakhouse to encouraging us to read each day.
Mrs. Skibitski is still gathering pictures for our display. Submit a picture of you and your family reading your favorite books to sskibitski@allsaintspar.org.
Continue reading and recording your pages - Students remain in the lead with 5th Grade reading the most. The teachers have a renewed sense of urgency and slowly inching closer! Who will read the most, teachers or students?
*Funds from the Read-a-Thon will purchase a new color printer for our Media Center.
