NORTH CENTRAL
Diffusion & Cell Size
The AP Biology students have been looking at diffusion and cell size. The pic of the cubes is the result above the starting point. The smaller the cube, the more likely diffusion will cover the entire volume.
Society of Plastic Engineers
On September 26, Mr. Ransford’s classes had the pleasure of having Mark Wolverton as a guest speaker. Mark is from the Chicago area and came to visit as part of the Plastivan program through the Society of Plastic Engineers. Mark is a retired engineer and spent his career in the plastics industry. He worked with several companies over the years, one of which was Black and Decker.
The Plastivan program travels to different schools around the country to teach students about the different types of plastics, their uses, benefits of recycling, and some of the science involved in plastics. Mark Wolverton gave some demonstrations of different plastics. Students were then able to also perform the experiments. One experiment was to push a skewer through a balloon without popping it. This was to demonstrate the balloon's molecular makeup.
Mark was able to visit North Central with the Plastivan program thanks to a grant that Mr. Ransford received in the spring for a new 3D printer from the Society of Plastic Engineers. Mr. Ransford would like to the SPE for allowing him to be selected for the grant. The new 3D Printer is a great benefit to students and the students really enjoyed the visit from Mark and the Plastivan.

Fire Truck Visit
During Fire Prevention Week, Mrs. Snellenberger's kindergarten class had a great time learning about the fire truck and the equipment firefighters use to keep us safe! The kids even got to sit in the fire truck! We are so thankful for what they do and for coming to teach us about fire safety!

The 4th graders at NENE decorated pumpkins as their favorite book character. The pumpkins were donated by the IDOC Wabash Valley Correctional Facility.
Clayshire Castle
NENE fourth grade students enjoyed spending the day at Clayshire Castle near Bowling Green. They have been studying about the Middle Ages in reading. The students got to tour the castle, handle artifacts, and eat in the Grand Hall. The students also enjoyed the beautiful outdoor area.
