A note from the principal
Hello!
We are contacting you today to keep you updated, and aware of the work being done to further the lives of North View Middle School students. This update contains information about our school goals for instruction and achievement, activities used to support our goals, and our progress toward meeting them. In this issue, you will be provided with information related to:

Asynchronous Learning Day
Friday, April 19th will be an Asynchronous Learning day for students. Staff will engage in teacher collaboration. Attendance will be taken, office hours will be held via Google Meet, and students will access learning materials in Schoology. Each teacher will provide information to their students about individual classroom expectations. Click here to be taken to information that will be shared with your students.
MCA Testing Information
North View Middle School students will take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment(MCA) in Reading, Math, and Science on the dates listed below. Please ensure that your student brings their fully charged Chromebook, charger, and headphones on their testing date.
- Reading: April 16th and 17th
- Math: April 23rd and 24th
- Science: April 30th and 1st
Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring that our students have a productive testing experience.
Spring Conferences
Our in-person conferencing experience will be held on Thursday, April 25th from 3:00-7:00 pm. During this time you will be able to:
- Meet each of your child's teachers.
- Review classroom objectives and goals.
- Discuss how your child is progressing in class.
- As a thank you for your commitment to our students and North View Middle School, we are providing parents and their students who attend conferences with a complimentary meal. The first six hundred attendees can select a dinner from either the Market Bar-B-Que, or El Burrito Mercado Food Truck.
If you cannot attend or would like to view your child's progress ahead of time, please login into Schoology or ParentVue.
Feedback Update
1. Conferences
Thank you to everyone who responded to our Conference feedback poll in a previous newsletter. When surveyed, fifty percent of respondents would like us to include virtual conference options in next year's conference schedule. We will use this feedback along with a information related to participation rates to include a virtual option that meets the needs of our school community.
2. Organization Support
Additionally, your input on the organization and time management needs of our 6th and 7th-grade students will drive what we would this spring and summer to better support your students in the area of taking responsibility of their learning by helping them develop study habits and plan and prioritize school tasks. Thank you again for your feedback.
Highlights from the past month
We had another eventful month at North View Middle School. We held a door decorating contest, a March Madness basketball tournament, as well as Book Madness Brackets. We have included a few highlights below in case you missed them.
Basketball Tournament
In the spirit of camaraderie and community building, the North View Middle School community participated in our own March Madness activities. Congratulations to the winning team!
Door Decorating
Students got into the spirit of the women's NCAA basketball tournament by spicing up their advisories with a door decorating competition.
Book Madness
Not only did our students and staff face off, but also our beloved books battled it out in an epic book selection tournament!
CCX Media joined North View Middle School on their last few days of their March Madness tournament during the staff versus student basketball game.
Save the Date!
End of the Year Awards Ceremony
Save the Date! This event will provide students, families, teachers, and staff to celebrate the growth and achievements of the students throughout the year. North View students. It will include the recognition of academic achievements, participation in activities, and contributions to the school community. Students that will be honored will receive invitations to the celebration in advisory.

Reminder: Summer School
School Renovations
Thanks to the Building a Better Future initiative, NVMS will undergo major renovations on its second floor, with some improvements also planned for the first floor, which was renovated before. Key upgrades will include:
- A new library media center with an open commons space
- A new maker space
- Renovated art classrooms
- More learning on display features such as glass walls and open spaces
- Improved finishes and all new, flexible learning furniture
- Improvements to second floor security
- Updated HVAC system on the second floor, tying in with previously updated first floor HVAC
- Renovations to the school’s counseling space
The renovation aims to revamp and rearrange existing walls to fix issues in the building's original design, especially the lack of second-story walls. Construction will start in June, and substantial progress is anticipated by around August 15th.
Family Resource: A Book Of My Own
Author, humanitarian and Minnesotan Abby Cooper has started a new program, A Book of My Own. Their mission is to provide “free or gently used diverse books to kids and families across the state of Minnesota.” Families can request books once a year via a form on the website. Feel free to share this resource with any students or families who might benefit from this service.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I come in and visit my student's classroom?
Yes. Following the appropriate protocol, visitors are allowed into our building.
- Will breakfast and lunches continue to be free this year?
Yes, school meals will be provided free of charge to all students this year. It is extremely important to fill out the free/reduced meal application if you would like to continue to receive discounted services, like school activities and home internet service (upon qualification).
- Where do I find the school supply list?
Please click here for this year's school supply list.
- When does the school open?
The school building will be open for students to enter each day at 7:50 am. Please do not drop off students before this time if possible.
- Who should I contact with questions?
If you have general questions, please call the school at 763-585-7200.
- When will students get their Chromebooks?
Students will begin receiving their Chromebooks on Thursday, September 7th. - When is picture day?
Picture day is Sept. 12, 2023, and the retake day will be Oct 3, 2023.
- I need support with Internet Resources.
Resources are available to support families that do not have access to the internet in their homes can be found here. Internet support and resources may also be provided to families as necessary by the district.

At the beginning of each month, North View Middle School will send you the "News from the View" Family Newsletter. These newsletters are organized in a fashion that the most critical information is at the top and as you scroll down the newsletter the information becomes more oriented toward the future. This is your “one-stop shop” to stay informed about the happenings of our school community.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Not only will you be able to meet your child's teacher, but there will also be opportunities to provide us with feedback about your needs. North View Middle School is a dynamic community; if you want to be involved and don’t know how, please ask. The NVMS website is a place to go to pull static information and facts about North View Middle School that could be important for a family at any point of the year.
