THANK YOU, KIWANIS!
THANK YOU to the Sioux Center Kiwanis for the NEW dictionaries they gave to our 3rd graders! Kiwanis members visited our 3rd grade classrooms and shared how Kiwanis works to help kids in our community - one way is to give a dictionary to every 3rd grade student in Sioux Center! Students were challenged to look up the word "volunteer" in their new dictionaries and they showered the visitors with their excitement and heartfelt "thank you's". They were very eager to dig into their dictionaries! In addition to word definitions, they found sign language, roman numerals, and the longest word in the English language.
One way you can support Kiwanis is to bring pop cans and bottles to their trailer on the Walmart parking lot. Funds received from pop cans and their other fundraisers are used to purchase these dictionaries, give reading books to all first graders in the community, and help our 5th graders take an educational trip to our state capital, and more! THANK YOU, Kiwanis!
HONOR BAND
On Saturday, October 19, eight of our 7th/8th grade band members traveled to Storm Lake to audition for the Northwest Iowa District Honor Band. Students spent months preparing two excerpts and memorizing scales. This music challenges students beyond the middle school level, and it is wonderful to see so many pursuing music.
Congratulations to all who auditioned and to the four (Abby, Ben, Colin, and Miles) who were selected for the Honor Band! They will perform at the BJ Haan Auditorium on Saturday, November 9 at 4:30pm.
ALTERNATE BUS ROUTES
Due to the public school having an early dismissal on some Fridays, we will be running the alternate bus route in the afternoon on the following Fridays during this school year: Nov. 22, Jan. 10, Feb. 28, Apr. 4, May 16.
