A MESSAGE FROM DR. ELLISON
Dear Glen Grove Families,
Thank you to the WB/GG PTA for hosting such fabulous fall parties. Our students had a wonderful time and we appreciate the time and effort that went into the planning.
Exciting news! Illinois has released its school report cards from the 2023-2024 school year. Glen Grove has once again achieved an Exemplary Designation. This means we are performing in the top ten percent of schools in Illinois. This is a testament to our tremendous learning community at Glen Grove, including students, families, and educators. We are so proud of our school and our community.
The school report cards have a tremendous amount of data about our school and can be found on the Illinois school report card website. Our designation is determined through multiple data sources including, but not limited to, academic attainment, academic growth, the Five Essentials climate survey, student attendance, and rates of English language growth. Our Glen Grove Gators are doing a great job!
Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring the well-being of our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
In partnership,
Kate Ellison
Glen Grove Principal

STUDENT MATERIALS & LUNCH DROP OFF DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
We will continue with the procedures put in place last year as a result of improvements made to all D34 buildings. The outer door to the vestibule will be locked throughout the school day. While this is great for safety and security, it will make it a bit more challenging to receive forgotten student items during the school day. While we understand that students forget things from time to time, we also want to minimize classroom disruptions and traffic in the office.
If you are dropping something off for your child in the middle of the school day, please leave it labeled on the cart in the vestibule. Our office staff will do a morning and afternoon check of the cart and notify teachers. We will also do a student delivery of materials before lunchtime to ensure everyone has what they need for lunch and recess.

Special Thank You!
The Glen Grove Community Project members would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make Friday’s event, Remembering Loved Ones, an exceptional evening filled with fun, food, friends and family. We would like to spotlight our Student Leaders for taking the time to help at the event: Tselmuun, Setsen, Bayamir, and Anastasiia U. in Mrs. Champney’s class and Anastasiia S. in Mr. Roy’s class. This year I asked if any students would like to help prepare materials for the GGCP events. There was an overwhelming response from 4th graders. We were well prepared for the event thanks to them and the small band of dedicated 5th graders.
Looking to Help in the Library?
We are always on the lookout for volunteers to shelve books throughout the day. If you have time, we are happy to show you the ins and outs of shelving. Make your own schedule, it can be once a week or once a month, we gladly accept any help.
SCIENCE NEWS
Our 3rd grade scientists are getting closer to the end of their first unit by exploring the invisible forces of static electricity and magnetism. We know we can easily push and pull on things with our hands and feet, but we've recently learned how we can do the same thing without actually touching an object. It's not magic, it's science!!! If you would like to explore these invisible forces with your young budding scientists, try out some fun, easy to do at home activities here and here!
Between the Pancake Caper lab and exploring evidence for chemical change, the 5th graders have been hard at work with chemistry! They are doing a great job making observations as they follow step by step experimental procedures. This is all good practice for what awaits them in middle school in combination with the note-taking practice and writing like scientists their teachers are reinforcing when they aren't experimenting. And since cooking is chemistry, have them join in during meal prep time if they don't already do. It's helpful for them to see that the recipes we use at home are just like the steps they need to follow during a chemistry lab activity to make sure everything turns out as expected.
And here's a quick candy-related chemistry activity you can do at home to explore a physical property of M&Ms. Enjoy!
