ASPEN CHALLENGE WINNERS!
The San Diego Met's Aspen Challenge team won both the People’s Choice Award and the Grand Prize for their solution “Spill the Tea”! The Aspen Challenge is a district-wide competition involving most of the high schools in San Diego Unified. Each schools fields a team, and they are challenged to design a solution to one of several issues that are posed by community members.
The Met's solution focused on creating LGBTQ+ safe spaces as well as harm reduction related to substance abuse. Part of the team's work was creating a resource fair and multiple workshops for our March MetUp: Nourish and Flourish.
As part of the prize for winning, our team will be going to Aspen, Colorado, for a week at the end of June to attend the Aspen Ideas Festival. See this link for more information about this incredible win!

College and Career
California Colleges Guidance Initiative (CCGI)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our ongoing efforts to support your student in preparing for life after high school, we’re excited to share that we are implementing the California Colleges Guidance Initiative (CCGI). This platform is designed to simplify the college and financial aid application process for students and provide schools with valuable tools to better support them.
What You Need to Know:
Starting next school year (2025–2026), all seniors will use CaliforniaColleges.edu to complete their UC, CSU, and California Community College applications, as well as their financial aid applications (FAFSA or CADAA).
- This week, you will receive a notification letter from our district's Counseling & Guidance Office. The letter has additional details for the rationale for this initiative. It also explains how to opt out of this initiative. If you do not want your student’s data shared with CCGI, you will have until April 30, 2025 to submit the opt-out form.
- We will share more information with both students and families when we have it, and we look forward to full implementation in August 2025.
Thank you for being a vital part of your student’s journey toward college and career success!
