Passing on the Torch...
Thank you Jane!
Jane Cardnell, The SC of Houston Board Member since 2018 and President from 2019-2023, is resigning from responsibilities of Board as of October 17, 2024. Jane has been a vital and intricate force of knowledge for the club and Board of Directors during her 7 year tenure. She has led and paved the path in developing many new programs and policies such as building our LTS Skate USA competition into our annual Non-Qualifying Full Competition, creating the Talbot Award that recognizes an outstanding senior, continuing our reputation for professional and consistent test sessions adding more per year, refining our Bylaws and club governance to ensure its long term stability and growth, adding our new Athlete Stipend policy to assist and recognize our competitive skaters in their achievements, and much more. She has worked tirelessly over the years in ways that are unseen by many to foster the growth and stability of the club, as well as maintain positive relations with USFS authorities and local rink management. The club is where it is today because of her guidance and leadership that she has maintained from the paths paved by the Presidents before her, Virginia Talbot and Russ Howell.
Jane, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the Club Membership we wish you well as you embark on the new adventures that life is surely to bring you and thank you whole heartedly for all that you have given to the club. We will miss you dearly.
Sincerely,
Lisa Hayes
President, The SC of Houston
Angela McClendon
Elena Prudsy
Elena has been a member of the Board since 2019 and has been indispensable. She has been involved in helping to bring the club communities together and serving as the voice of the Bellerive coaches and skaters alike. She has helped to establish test sessions throughout the years at Bellerive, assisted with NQS events and various exhibitions. Although stepping down from her Board duties, she will continue to serve as a valuable resource and volunteer as her coaching schedule allows and will continue to mentor and give valuable feedback to the board and club.

USFS High School Ambassador 2024-2025
Congratulations to our own Mike Weng who has been selected as a USFS High School Ambassador for the 2024-2025 Season!!
After submitting the application along with two recommendation letters and school transcripts, Mike was invited for an interview and was selected. Last year, there were 12 ambassadors, but with four of them graduating, they were seeking new members. After the interviews, they selected five ambassadors from across the country, and Mike was among them. We are so proud of him! Way to go Mike!
What is the High School Ambassador Program?
Similar to the Collegiate Ambassador Program, the High School Ambassador Program allows for skaters participating in high school skating programming to serve in a leadership role. The goal of this program is to help support U.S. Figure Skating and the High School Programs Subcommittee as we continue to grow our high school skating programs around the country.
Check Out Zoey Ding's New Book
Congratulations Zoey Ding on the publishing of her second book!
From Amazon: "In a world on the brink of collapse, one lab experiment spirals into a global catastrophe. “The Cat is Out of the Bag” is a pulse-pounding, mind-bending thriller that combines dark tales with edge-of-your-seat suspense."
“The Cat is Out of the Bag” is an adrenaline-fueled journey through a nightmare where nothing is as it seems, and survival is the ultimate gamble. Will the last remains of humanity find a way to survive, or will the virus spell the end of everything?
Prepare for a rollercoaster of emotions and an ending you won’t see coming."
The Dead End by Zoey Ding and Illustrated by Jacqueline Pham (also of SC of Houston!)
"The Dead End" is a children's thriller that explores the depths of identity, loyalty, and the price of redemption in a world where truth is a luxury few can afford."
