Bonham Lady Warrior Athletics
March 2024 Report
Athletic Director Notes:
Mid-Spring Report
We are approaching the midway point in softball, track, and golf. Tennis has just begun, with 2 meets behind us and 9 remaining. Powerlifting (girls) and soccer have finished their seasons and now our focus is on making the post-season in our spring sports. Prior to soccer ending on March 8th, 95% of all female athletes at BHS were "in season", actively participating in a sport. Only 5% were in our off-season program. Participation is very important to me so I am very pleased with this number.
STATE QUALIFIER !
BHS senior, Lorelei Roberts, did well enough at the regional powerlifting meet to qualify for the state meet in Frisco. Unfortunately, Lorelei suffered a leg injury soon after the regional meet and was unable to perform at state. Nevertheless, we are so proud of her and all the hard work she put in to make it to state.
Soccer honors Seniors
On March 6th, we honored our soccer seniors with a ceremony before the game against Panther Creek. We're proud to have these young ladies in our soccer program over the last several years. Left to right: Angela Martinez-Trochez, Kayla Lopez, Nahomy Hernandez-Rodriguez, Kaitana Hill.
Track & Field off to a hot start
BHS girls track has set the tone for another successful season with top 3 overall finishes at S & S and Wolfe City. Both the varsity and JV divisions were meet runner-up at the S & S Invitational. The boys team won the meet championship in both divisions as over 85+ athletes competed for BHS.
Overall medals (boys and girls combined) at S & S:
33- gold
20- silver
23- bronze
Shockley signs to play in college: softball report
Reyleigh Shockley had her signing ceremony before spring break, committing to Paris Junior College to play for the Dragons next year. Reyleigh has been a force on the mound for our Lady Warriors over the past 2 seasons and we are so proud of her accomplishments.
Our softball team is off to a great start with a championship in the Carrollton tournament, and a sweep of our Bonham/Bells tournament, going 6-0 over a 3 day span.
At of the time of this publication, our overall record is 16-5-3, and 2-1 in district play.
Basketball has 9 players recognized for academic excellence
These young ladies from our BHS basketball team maintained an overall average of 90+ in all classes during basketball season. This makes me extra proud because we preach about importance of business in the classroom and expect our athletes to be great students.
Tennis begins a full schedule of HOME events
Our tennis program, under the leadership of Kirstin Bockman, has completed 2 of 10 tournaments to be held on our home courts at BHS. We have enough participants to field a varsity and JV squad and we had several medalists in the matches held on March 4th and March 6th. As I posted on our Bonham Purple Warriors facebook page, we are so very grateful to have tennis courts that schools from all around the area come to play. Tennis facilities are rare around these parts and we are proud to be the host of so many tournaments, year after year.
