Weekly Update ~ March 21, 2022
A Message from OGS Administration
In early April, OGS administrators would like to meet with interested parents to discuss ideas, opportunities, and proposed updates to academic programming that potentially impact next school year and years that follow.
Presentations will be shared in each of the meetings and there will be time for Q/A with administrators. Parents will be asked to complete follow-up surveys to provide feedback to inform planning and future decisions. Please see the information below regarding two scheduled meetings and register for one or both at this link if you are interested in attending.
On Tuesday, April 5, from 6:00-7:00 pm, there will be a virtual (interactive) webinar on proposed instructional model changes for the 2022-23 school year that impact students going into grades 4 and 5 next year. While the target audience is families of students going into grades 4 and 5 in fall 2022, any parent/guardian may register. This webinar will be recorded and a link will be shared with all families on April 6.
On Monday, April 11, from 6:30-8:00 pm, administration will host an in-person meeting at OGS (Pat Patt Gym) to share ideas for the long-term development of STEM programming and any potential impact on elective courses at both the elementary and junior high levels. Please note: the 8th grade play for the 2022-23 school year will remain an elective class during the school day. There will be no adjustments to the play next year. All families are welcome. The presentation will be recorded for those that cannot attend and distributed to families after April 11.

6th-8th Grade Track Season Begins!
All 6th-8th grade students who are interested in track should attend our first meeting of the season on Monday, April 4th from 3:45 PM-4:45 PM. We will meet on the pavement by the junior high playground to go over the offered events, review the organization and expectations for practices, and answer any questions before getting to work.
Track practices will typically run from 3:45 PM-4:45 PM Monday-Thursday with longer hours on meet days. All interested students must have a current sports physical on file before our first meet on Wednesday, April 13th in order to participate in the season. Physical forms should be submitted directly to the Oak Grove Nurses' Office.
Ms. Bulley, Mr. Callahan, and Mr. Picchiotti, this year's coaches, will host a virtual parent meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, April 6th to provide additional information for the season; however, please feel free to reach out to Elizabeth Bulley (bulley@ogschool.org) with any questions before then.
We look forward to a great season ahead!

Variety Show
Back by popular demand…Oak Grove Variety Show 2022 LIVE! Yes, we said LIVE! Calling all 5th-8th graders. It is time to get your creative juices flowing and think of which talents you want to share with our community. Solos and groups can try out - all talents welcome. The OGS stage hasn’t had a variety show since 2019, so if you aren’t familiar with it, watch the video boards at school for clips from past shows and ask your neighbors with older kiddos. It's the most fun you'll ever have! We are also looking for parent volunteers who want to serve on the planning committee. Please reach out to Christine Merrild and Ashley Wilson for more information.
Look on the PTO website for all Variety Show news and review the tryout information sheet linked here!

Family Socials
As life returns to normal we wish we could squeeze in all the fun PTO events that we all love and cherish, but there isn’t enough time or manpower to hold them all before the end of the year. We’ll DEFINITELY be bringing back student+parent dances/socials and grade level socials next year, but for this year all OGS families are invited to a series of family socials we’ll be hosting in April including roller skating, bowling and trampoline jumping. The PTO will pay admission for these events and family groups or groups of students with a parent chaperone can attend together. Watch for an e-mail this week with additional details and links to Google Forms to sign up for these events!
Community Give Back Event @ Old School Forest Preserve
On May 22nd from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Oak Grove families will have an opportunity to volunteer at Lake County Forest Preserves. This event is for the whole family! We will be helping clear buckthorn, pull garlic mustard, and pick up sticks (ideal for smaller helpers). Volunteers are welcome to stay for any length of time, but LCFP asks that all volunteers report at 10:00 am to go over the directions. The deadline to sign up is May 1st: sign up here to support our beautiful forest preserve, teach your kids about volunteerism, and spend time outdoors with others from our OGS community!
Thank You For Supporting Clucker’s Night
Thank you to everyone who ordered Clucker’s Charcoal Chicken last Wednesday; you helped us raise nearly $400 for the PTO and supported a local business in the process! We learned that they were understaffed that night and we know that orders took longer than expected; we appreciate your patience!
